  THE VISION AND VIRTUE OF VITALITY

The Area of Implacable Vitality

 

REVIEW AND REHEARSAL

First, let us tune in to the symphonies of our field, by gaining the perspective of the introduction to this work.

 

It is no mean feat that those who love to detract from the deity of our configuration, the God of our creation, the Lord of our redemption, bypass entirely that one Being whose wisdom is both

multiple  and profound,

inexorable and patient,
 

bullet

outwitting all the old contemptibles that infest the flesh of man,
enabling deliverance from all his weaknesses,
when wisdom like lightning purges his soul and anoints his heart.

It is a testimony to the scope of this divine creation
that in talking in the field of their Creator, in masses,
they so frequently ignore what they are talking about,
and instead talk about their own thoughts,
as if these and not God were their progenitor, basis and meaning,
rather than the instituted looking glass from His hand.
That, it is one so made that it can in validity look both at itself and its Maker,
when it has a mind so  to do,
and when like so many of man's own creations,
it is enabled.
Like them, it is potent but has to be handled aright.

What a prodigy is this so contemptuously and contemptibly distortive, sportive spirit of man, dismissive or derogatory of things spiritual while using them every moment of the day, even while impugning God with arrogance, assailing Him with impudence or seeking to leach Him out by an artful indifference!

Thus in creation,  the artifices of concept and command, conjoined so that they may even be exhumed from the DNA and the material universe alike, so that they might be stated and stipulated even by the very mind of man, are a profound communicative feat in a double dimension. Firstly, it is so in the One who spoke us into existence, by using communication power to execute His will, and left the material part in DNA as testimony and continuing and programmatic command alike. Yet there is more. Yes, more even than this stares us in the face.

There is, secondly,  the vitality of life, the practicality of wisdom for man, the intensive reconstruction for his spirit, called regeneration, the prodigious realism that faces the worst and provides the best, together with the cost of it, called redemption, and the divine perspicuity which knows all, sees all and confused at nothing, produces as if from a divine palette, the whole exuberance of creation. Misled, this bedevils man, for so profound is  the image of God in man, that it allows both the riotous imagination of people as if gods in their delusion, who are but men, and scope for the repentance which knocks with faith on the doors of reality, aspiring only to be numbered amongst the redeemed. Thus you have ambassadors for Christ, the crux of all content and contentment, in this world before it goes, and ambassadors for evil, seeking to prolong the mess as masses writhe in their defiled leadership and incalculable defiance.

Such blessed heights, depths and dimensions require attention and here we give it.

Let us then regard the thrust and vitality of life.

Thus with irreducible complexity now so famous, we have added synthetic integrality, linguistic command and now with other components of the presentation from  The Apotheosis of Nothing*1, add implacable vitality. This is one more component to add, when you try to account for the things that manifestly are, by trying to caress them into becoming, like some  Princess of the Universe, their own source, deified, an imbroglio of imagination staring at reality with dreams in its eyes. Let us adapt from History, Review and Overview Ch. 5.

The endeavour to thrash the personification called 'Nature' into having the results before the eyes, which it merely incorporates, so that it is made to cry out, 'Yes, I made myself! look what I can do!' when in simple fact, its demonstrated powers in this regard are a total blank, what is it like ? it is rather like seeking to make the automobile, by staring, starry-eyed, at its procedures, and awaiting their creation from within themselves, as if SURELY, having come, they can come again any time they wish.  Unhappily this simply replaces the cause of origin with the conduct of what is originated, not only begging the question but confusing the ultimates.

Of course that sandal on the beach that one happens to noticel, made itself; of course that thousand volume coded book of instructions about making man and the meta-information supplement about its modes of use, wrote itself, DNA the very darling of a nibless pen;  of course a space-ship by outstripping all other space-ships, is its own source and needs neither factory nor thought, and its codes and conceptual reifications are the output of chatter, while the systems in which they operate so effectually, resources for their command, are the output of nothing and the result is a testimony to inability at the height of its powers.

To attest such wonderful ideas, as more than silly dreams, then, why not ...

a) make another (difficult... with the universe).

b) make wisdom appear from steel and oil, plastic and gasoline (undiscerning),
let is be produced naturally without interference from man.

c) create integrable entities which are meaningless apart,
glorious together in systems innumerable (rather planless),
and have them waft undirected into synthetic collusion to act as one,
unitary in nature and expressive of character of one kind or another as one whole,
so that you.

d) inter-relate these integrable entities, made meaningful when integrated
(time for the plan, though a little late, and you in the model, are simply not
there to do it).

e) compose the type of integer desired,
whether man or angel, devil or
any other assessable entity,
regaled with life (decidedly Puckish flitting, much too late).

f) then make it operable and apt for exploitation or due use, as the case may be,
as it is for mortals among men, so that it can rupture logic while giving quasi-reasons
and though altogether spawn of unreason, operate by it
( model-makers should have thought of this from the first,
in order to make it ... relevant, since outrageous irrelevance is in their offering).

Why not SHOW what nothing shows, that nothing is a great basis for grandeur, the knowledge of truth and the production of truth in order that it may be known. Nothing known becomes something shown, and this the truth in the world's greatest travesty, other than the Cross of Christ, where the crucifixion of truth was direct.

This is the exact  nature of childishness, quaint and even romantic when read in Calvin and Hobbes, when many impossible things are imagined with the lust of a listing for such things. If, in the cartoons, we laugh at the simplicity and folly of the untutored mind of a child, that imagines with no trace of realism, and seeks to implement its wishes with no touch of rationality, then need we teach students to do the same, as if mockery were life, and ignorance were knowledge, as if the untestified should be taught and the evidentially absent should be basic!

It is a wonder of human nature, what delusions it can with passion embrace! and little better shows the power of logic behind and beyond man, to make logic his mental domain, than its assessable and attestable misuse and abuse, corrigible by knowledge! Liberty allows abuse and fidelity to logic allows its correction, as here.

Yet how it has ever come about that a certain solemnity has been made to attach to the childishness of shrieking to 'nature' to DO IT,  to perform what it shows no inclination, disposition, equipment or mentality for doing, namely ? to make itself in whole or in part. It is in this mode of morbid dysfunction.

As to 'nature',  then, man is to be found prodding it here, pushing it there, tormenting it in some other way to admit to a past it shows no disposition to attest, but rather denies, being mute at the outset, concerning being its own inventor; for it is too pre-occupied with operating like other inventions, with what it has been made to do, to romance in such ways. Such conduct of the part of prying, probing, desperate man is a study in human pathology of no means scope and significance! Seeking to put mental conceptions into material things, and spiritual realities into mere analysis of the inert, so that what operates man is a mere add-on, like a running board to a car. which by nature merely reveals what is passing, at best: this is one of the marvels of the last two centuries. Failure in every endeavour to show this or that in naturalism, is endemic, inveterate, predictable and verified without limit.

NOTHING co-operates. Man operates. Nature smiles, like Mona Lisa, and gets on with its business. It was given to be at the first, how to go, and it simply ... goes. It outright refuses to invest in a future which is creative, to divulge one from its own bosom in the past, and being what it is, has no room for romancing, confined to the mind of man.  As Denton pointed out, continuity in nature, mergers as you go into what is diverse in kind, character and nature, exists only in the mind of man, not in nature itself (Denton, Evolution: A Theory in Crisis, p. 353), and the concept of undirected action with decodable results such as we have, he deems (p. 351),  "an affront to reason." As self-contradiction, it is certainly eminent as an exemplar.

BEFORE PROCEEDING, let us look at some of the other features of our creation, from a systematic aspect, as noted in The Apotheosis of Nothing.

There are for example, in addition  to 

       1) irreducible complexity:

2) indivisible integrity,

3) indissoluble co-operation,

4) inter-and intra-systematic proliferation,

5) coherence of logic and symbolic notation with
executive receptors, skilled to catch meaning and execute orders, 

6) continuity of sequence from

connotation, to denotation, to implementation, in

7) a series of systematics
incomprehensible except in totality,
meaningful in comprehensiveness,
in part arraignable by will.

 To these, from Glory, Vainglory and Goodness, Ch. 1,  we add

8) physical, ethical, moral, aesthetic,
discursive, ruminative, intellectually integrative,
spiritually imaginative and
metaphysically cohesive unity of perspective, operation and concentration,

and

9) potential for unitary understanding
explicative of all,
derived from the summit of experience and
comprehension in the Creator.

These are all 'just things', elements, associations and operations taken for granted, but never granted without ground. As to the last, 'potential for unitary understanding', this is shown in detail and depth in  Deity and Design ... and in scope  and amplitude in

LIGHT DWELLS WITH THE LORD'S CHRIST.

On these, the point is exhibited in detail, together with the inability of any departure from it, to find logical accommodation (cf. Deity andf Design    8). Nothing goes without God and with Him, everything in reason flows. Such is the finding, and such is its consistency and its depth.

In terms of Biblical Christian Apologetics, the name given for the presentation on this site, along with Irresistible Reason for  Certain  Faith, it is useful to notice that the point and pith of design is secondary to the direct argument that God is and has spoken, and that His speech is with singularity and certainty inscribed in the Bible, as the only written public declaration to mankind. This does nothing to reduce the significance and over-riding force to be found in terms of the dynamic of design in the codes of its creation, the unitary nature of its results and its definitional incapacity to be removed from the case; but it makes this phase a notable addition!

Design as a topic is verificatory of the direct  proof, found in SMR and amplified in TMR, along with every other domain one can find. This being so, we proceed with the topic of DESIGN, looking at the evidential  criteria and the logical rigour which alone can make rationality assignable, in matters of discussion, in verificatory mode.

 

NEW FEATURES FAITHFULLY FOUND IN LIFE

 

To these aspects, then,  of creation, just noted in red above, and in particular, that creation called man, though not exclusively, now we add:

10) synthetic integrality,

11) linguistic command and now with other components of the presentation,

12) implacable vitality.

 

This makes 12 features of function which

bullet both individually and
bullet corporately command attention and
bullet require formal logical acknowledgement and consequence.

These are the works of concerted, concentrated, unified, single-language, conceptually and lingusitically decodable mind on mission, implying purpose and exhibiting what is defined to be design.

As to these last three points (numbers 10-12 in the total list), the first refers to the fact that, to take ourselves so well-known in our felicity of operation, there is a combined aggregation of abilities and facilities which so surpasses mere addition as to constitute a complex, a compound of capacities, and more than this, a working model of actualities. There is the eye to see, the ear to hear, the finger to touch, the mind to rehearse, the memory to review, the imagination to conceive, the heart to love, the intellect to assess, the organic schedules to enable the implementation of all this at the physical level.

There is the overall arrangement, contrary to evidential dispersal*2. It is like a million dollar bank  account in the presence of spendthrift. You do not get the former by the latter. Dispersal is not aggregation, and aggregation of information in integration to provide a unitary resultant of designable nature, personal or otherwise, is not the way of observation, the Second Law of Thermodynamics merely a convenient appellation of the disastrously obvious fact. If our own genome is dangerously imperilled as it runs down in apt and accurate information through impacts of stress to its construction, over millenia, that is the way of life and for life in this present earth. That is the way it goes. It does not come, it is never found so, despite the confusions of those who seek to make re-arrangement and variation scheduling into an innovation, as if the very concept of KIND and variety had not been denoted from the first, in Genesis, or we were living somewhere else (cf. SMR pp. 284ff.). Nothing without cause is one of logic's laws, the violation of which merely invalidates the argument. Reason  cannot avail unless it is in principle valid, and without it the only discursion for discussion is irrationality, the end of a ll  cohesive argument. The matter is one in principle and practice.

What HAPPENS empirically in what is observed at large, and this is information loss, genome deterioration, dreams notwithstanding.  Despite this, the case that remains overall,  is one of congenial co-operation of these features. Accordingly,  the present processes and the direction of trend are opposite.  One is aggregation and overall felicity in types, kinds as given;   the other is disassemblage and deterioration in quality, even to the point of threatening the future for man. If in any way then the present is here key to the past, it is so in showing the creative input on the past side, and the desecrative or dispersive output in the present side: that is, the present implies the power, now stilled in the realm of the visible,  used in creation in the past.

Such wonder  is discernible by the mind of man,  in what is already present; and  through his mind he finds subjection to  order and organisation, akin to its own logical modes,  and interpretable by it. This discovery and series of discoveries, however, is not his actual creation but what his mind finds, this empirically as biblically. THIS work not being current, it is some of the governing criteria found in its institution, to which man comes. As he strives to understand, he is creative but not of the field of discovery; he discovers, but only what was first put there; he reasons, but only to meet rationality in the engineering and the conformities; he thinks but only to evidence the LOGOS*2A focus and feature throughout, the power of reason and the reason for power. It is a major part of what  renders things operable and renders man's mind able  to follow,  as a child his teacher, and pursue in his own awakened thought, what are the logical ingredients that cunningly activate, and with meticulous attention to detail, enable wondrous works for controlled variation within kind*2B.

They are present, but their way is to become more absent. While there is diversification through rules and technical achievements of the utmost subtlety, information is conserved as a throne saves its jewels, since there are none more of this kind to be found, like gold, ready for display. After hundreds of generations, more and more is lost: hence men lament when 'nature', that is the realm of creation, loses this or that. Where is more to be found! Where indeed, except in the Provider, who like man, creates at His  good pleasure, and not by compulsion. When as now it is finished, that is the case. Pretence and  lament will not change it. God is not manipulable.

If we want information outside that given for the numerous natures that inhabit the realm of law and organisation, we have to put it in ourselves; and THEN we can compare our efforts with that other Source, that other Intelligence, that other Imagination, that other Conceiver, Creator and Designer*, to whose works our own are comparable to those of a dog in the presence of his master, except for this, that freedom is utterly unobtainable by us as creators,  since creation is constraint when things material are concerned, and limited when things mental are involved, the only surety being that which yielding to logic,  so  profound in that creation called man, both in his mode of action and the nature of his construction, finds God the Creator. He is precisely where evidence insists and rationality defines and the Bible expounds, and Jesus Christ expounds in Person, being God as man. This is available only on  repentance and regeneration, to enable meaningful communication, not divorcee gabble, and hence as Solomon asserts, man labours under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:3). With eternity in his heart (that is, potential for restoration of access to his Creator (Ecclesiastes 7:29), man has turned to devious devices, and must return (as in Ecclesiastes 11-12).

But what of man's mental operation and activated desire to grasp things and modes and perceptive reality ?

As for man,  he merely unearths mentally what is there to be found on such premises, being itself accessible to this cognate research tool, the mind of man. In himself, man then considers, reviews: pondering possibilities, examining options and delivering critiques, as well as dreaming non-existent things as though they were, and often enough, extant things as if they were not (this constituting the pathological misuse of the ensemble).

In this, that is observed, there is a facility of integrality, an enablement and exhibition of thrust, point, positioning for  name and notion, action and a specific overall nature: and this very being, himself, as a composition, it works.  Even within that, there is even further witness to integration, that is, there is not only the STRUCTURE of the integral, like a vast space-station, exquisitely organised with manifold marvels of intricate provisions, with manifest and extraordinary attention to detail in correlation with need, beautifully met,  for precisely the people who are to live there: there is also the functioning of it all. The object, the living thing in view,  not only enables it, by its construction; it does the thing for which it is enabled: and the 'thing' is as broad as life, select as you will. Though some things show more than others, all show much.

Enabled by these fastidiously implanted structures, in form, format, law, regulative device, environmental statute, with those exquisitely apposite practical workings, there is also another feature. Activated and created also is the vitality (point 12,above). There is not only structure and function and environment: all is apportionment for working and being productive for the integral being, man or bird or beast in view. Indeed, there artistry and engineering, mathematics and concept, creation and composition are enabled to unite their heady grandeurs and  apply them to what in the magnitude of of the universe, is an intriguingly potent and particular point: in this case, man!

Before our own eyes, there he is, an operational marvel, making a Boeing Aircraft seem mere child's play, fit for toddlers in its creation, by comparison. Moreover, to pursue the image,it not only flies, but does so with a flair or finesse, an exuberance or an address which is fascinating, often intensely so, and even coded specifications for variations in this, tend to stress the overall fashion of vitality.

As with all  design, in consummate form and format,  given intelligence and understanding, knowledge and patience, there is room for understanding, as people seeing it work, look for decoding principles, procedures and concepts, in order to understand. They look for arrangements and innovations, finding these out in the forms and verbalisations which cover their initial input. The writer gives it out, and they seek to find it out accordingly, using the same discursive thought mould. Thus Shakespeare thinks, encodes; we read, imagine, consider, ruminate amidst (what in his case are words) his creation and ponder its flow. We are able to do this because his mind has the same logic and his person the same basic structural and functional nature.

So we find in living things, thought realms,  conceptual realms, legal realms, mathematical realms, creative realms, imaginative ones: all are found by their like, that is, as man investigates with his more minimal but still cognate equipment of mind and spirit. Then he discovers what is there, in the logic within as it surges through the logic in the life outside, as waves surge through the crevices in a rocky headland. This he does except where the intelligence and knowledge, power or persistence baulks; but that is one of the good things about man, that he often does not baulk, but proceeds to find the last conceptual drop, coded drip, programmatic pulse, at least to the point of overwhelming admiration for what is before him; though of  course, man may instead manifest a deviousness to dump both what he is and what he finds, as well as their correlation: an act and a deed which is itself creative, if less worthy! It is part of liberty, not the less obvious even when its grounds are lost, and it is tossed as in a tempest, building in the mind needlessly falling, as if there were a devastatingl Christchurch episode within.

The second of the three above features, number 11 in the list, linguistic command, refers to the point that there is but one language for life, just as I normally use but English, or someone with a programming zeal, for  certain types of results may prefer ONE of the many available programming languages, such as C++ or Java or Fortran or C#. The phenomenon of life is one very special project and its programming language is ONE, the opposite of undirected activation: the format of the form of knowledge. It tends to break down over time, not to wake up*2, a downward trend in the continuing operation of designs in general; for this is the observable phenomenon. Designs require work for maintenance, are based on what is not themselves, but rather on what they are conformed to be, and informed to perform; and accordingly our DNA is running down, losing the order with which, by absolute contrast with current action, it was built up in the first place.

In the past was performed what the present cannot utter: for it is God who has  created as  this level, of which we are one part. In speech command was codified as in Genesis 1; in forms and formats came innovation in kind; in information amassment with editorial  provisions to  cover errors in transmission to new cells and generations, came realisation with provision for replication; in controls for all that information, came meta-information, inserted and operational for intricate control and direction. God spoke, and we can speak. There is the marvel. We can evens peak against him, like a rebellious child. In this malady, lies the reality of liberty and the scope for love, when it is not soured by an insecure sovereignty, imagined now as when Eve started it and Adam ineptly followed.  It could be ruined only because its rationality and liberty were so profound. 

Moreover,  all this came  in a complexity of finesse at which man, who can in principle move in such circles, looks like a child, rather a little one. Indeed it is only when he realises his place as offspring, fashioned not for clammy thoughts and catastrophic and destructive ways, that seeing himself as a child before God, he can grow. Illusions become enemies and these can be quite deadly (cf.  Matthew 18:1ff.).

The extra-natural source, then, being supervisory of the collation, information and command systems, and hence aptly called supernatural, who speaks in one language, with an innovatory extravaganza both of methods and figures, some like cartoons, some things of splendour, and His emplacement of these things, is precisely referred to in this relationship: God created the universe. The subsidiaries are conformed to the overall purpose, which therefore operates.

ALPHA and OMEGA:
DISCOUNT THAT AND YOU'VE GOT A MUDDLE IN THE MIDDLE, Ch. 2,

when reviewing these areas, we note some of the elements of reality and language, which now may be pondered in this setting.

Making some slight changes for this purpose,  let us look at the citation above from Waiting for Wonder,  Appendix:

As was earlier pointed out (op. cit. Volume 21(3), 2007, on pp. 111ff.), in a fascinating article by well-known biologist, Alex Williams:

 "DNA information is overlapping-multi-layered and multi-dimensional; it reads both backwards and forward; and the 'junk' is far more functional than the protein code, so there is no fossilized history of evolution.  No human engineer has ever even imagined, let alone  designed an information storage device anything like it."

He proceeds to note that "the vast majority:  is "meta-information - information about how to use information." Let us reflect on all of this. Now in the midst of wildly misnamed 'junk', we find the jewels of the crown, interpretative and collative, directive and explicatory background to the busy engineering of the protein-coding DNA. How often has it been necessary to point out on this site that magic is inoperative. You do not have things 'arise', for they require cause, and that in detail, and if you are going to have specific marvels of construction, you need specific marvels either of the power to construct, or of what such power has made in order that it may do it. With that, you need all that construction of a given finesse involves in imagination, conceptualisation and creativity, functions of person.

You do NOT, repeat NOT, have things wafting their way in on the wings of philosophy, rudely awakening specialists who are either unwitting or unwary or both, to the realms of delusion. You want it, it must be paid for, in cause cost. This world is not a dreamland.

Thus, to have this ultra-sophisticated, mathematical maestro level advent, you need the simultaneous advent of what is coded for command and what is coded to receive command; what is the instituted language for the production and reproduction of the same, and the performance of it. With this also, you need of course, what is available to BE commanded, commendably synchronised in its presence with the orders; for to order is of no use, whether chemically or in the Army, unless you have someone/something to order. A General without those to command is of little worth, and they must be integrated in one system where the fact of command and the mode of expression is understood, both to give and to get, while the means to institute, whatever these may be, persons, products or both, have to be synchronised with the issue of orders to the point that there is no mere wafting of sound, but intelligible symbols uttered in a plan of speech which allows semantic interpretation, programmed or personal, to act in the desired time-frame.

Thus there is for example, in the human kind case, need of making a threefold simultaneity of two coding specialisations (information and meta-information), not only with the same language, but with the same specification-symbol entry equivalents, to call forth effectually the actualities required, the THINGS for the WORDS. Moreover, there is command to give and to receive; and with the correlative commands, there is the capacity to bring the stuff up, in timely fashion,  for action upon it. For that, of course, it must be both there and in commandable condition, with all due technical specifications for the state in which it chemically exists,  and is physiologically reachable.

Williams is especially interested in meta-information, which is information about information, such as any student, whether over long years or shorter ones, needs to understand in order to be semantically functional. You have to know language in order to convey it, how it works, where it goes and does not, and to be really effective, why!  *T1

Thus, from Williams, we have further data (p. 115, op. cit.).

Not only is this meta-information case what is found, he declares, but in the regions yet to be more fully investigated, there appears to be a situation where all or almost all of this type of DNA is engaged in the work of gene regulation. This is an arena of current thrust in investigation. Rearrangements and circuits, orders, need some device to protect and to inject, and this meta-information seems full of it. Brilliant devices to use massive information structures to gain specialised variations on them, come with that fluency of mobility in the fixity of underlying structure which allows generic specifications to be adroitly adapted, like Mark I and Mark II automobiles, for example, when people await with expectation what variation on their desired make will be forthcoming. The mobile genetic units called transposons are one such device, which in one aspect, almost seem to resemble working mechanics, in hands-on attention to different variables available for manipulation.

Williams moves (op.cit. p. 116), to note the work of Dr John Sanford of Cornell University, citing the latter's Entropy & Mystery of the Genome. Here, the mutative exercise considered in the genome, which as with most designs exposed to the elements, involves deterioration, not progress. This is what could be called the Gould phenomenon: things in terms of design KINDS or types,  in his model are going down, not up (cf. Wake Up World! Your Creator is Coming Ch. 6). This is in part the Werner Gitt phenomenon: information does NOT arise without intelligence( cf. Gitt: http://creation.com/laws-of-information-1).

There are laws, and these need to be known and applied*T1 (Journal of Creation 2009, 23(2), pp. 96-109). Without such input, output tends to go down, as does the genome of man, a cause for real concern on the part of Dr Sanford.

In other words, these are areas of a kind relative to humankind, the way they go at the physical and physiological level, in overview.

What then of this finding of Sanford of Cornell ? That is the correlative both of the Second Law of Thermodynamics and of the basics of information science. His contribution is reported as showing that "deleterious mutations are accumulating at an alarming rate in the human population and that both natural selection and even the worst possible nightmare scenario of eugenics is powerless to stop it." This results from the enormous synthesis of variables, in holistic accords, weak points arising after several thousands of years, in hidden and varied ways. What there is to select from is being impaired, and the old chestnut, that to remove the worst creates the best is seen in its practical drabness. The best is going down.

Here is to be seen not only the meta-information fact in DNA, so that for the realms of orderly invocation of linguistic control, there is even something resembling a virtual dictionary of terms, information for the better manipulation of information, with an empirical restoration of more cause-and-effect order and discipline forcibly into arrant thought. Thus the DNA is DECLINING, not inclining and upward bound. Why up ? Why should anything elect to go up, or on what basis, make election ? Why is nothing chosen as basis for new spheres of operational felicity and meaning ? It is ludicrous. For this you need work and that means capacity for it and that requires fitness, the one that really counts, the fitness of the one doing the creative elevation, here the Creator.

But as to the creation, the nature of this or that at a given point: if it is doing very well, why improve ? What is the power and what the purpose and what the point and what the advantage ? and how is it made manifest while it is still not functional  ? This relates to the point Gould has made so forcibly in terms of what is found and what continues, arrives and so on, on his readings of the evidence in the Cambrian, especially its designs compared with those found now: a large reduction in KINDS is to be found, over time, he asserts most emphatically and with evident frustration, even apostrophising heaven, but to little advantage since he is merely stressed.

We revert to the base, the necessary means of continuity of life. This then is one of the fields of non-nothing and specifiable something which is back of language as a resource for the constant and indeed continual work of adhering to basic KINDS of things. DNA is a current directive  agency to these ends, and cell structure appears to interact with this in staggeringly fascinating ways, for their name is legion! but this time for good. Indeed, it all is in the environment of other correlatively used laws in the universe of matter. Let it go, and it goes; make it come, and it does not do so without the inventive application of intelligence; have it work and it uses a specification for linguistic flexibility and meaning. We are in the realm of reason, rationality, conception and conceptualisability, its pointer and kin.

even to copy and institute afresh
life's program-encrypting and matter-directive power,
and this is so, even after concerted, generations of intelligence application,
and even after discovering the conceptually-oriented chorus
of concerted commands that are intrinsic to physical life's being,
reproduction and working.

There is an incapacity on the part of this human race both to find in the laboratory conditions,
advance of integumental design, and to discover such advance occurring and recorded, as well as to find increase of basic information or upgrading in kind, without the exercise of intelligence. Symbolics are a field of thought, conception and attribution of concept, as are  commands,  and 
consequences wrought are a field of endeavour to achieve: HENCE information does not arise,
any more than do other works of  conceptual,  coded, controlled, even controlling thought. You have to think it, or some other Being with the relevant powers more conspicuous as the case may demand. Overview and command, conception and control, these are not features of what is
merely in view: you have to be outside it to make it achieve what it does not have power to do,
and hence is never found to do, in practice.

intended to assist non-intelligence to mirror intelligence,
however hilarious is the attempt to breach definition of product,
by mere persistence (cf. SMR p.  211).

Life simply persists in refusing to re-think its modules and products,
by whatever stimulus affronted and confronted, X-ray or any other;
and fascinating was the manner, conduct and outcome of one famous occasion of this kind
(cf.  *2, in Creation, Ch. 1 of TMR). Man may symbolically shriek at nature
(cf. Delusive Drift or Divine Dynamic Chs.   4, 3 and 2 ),
or any part of it; but it will not listen, nor does it respond.

It is like the priests of Baal (I Kings 17), who danced and cut themselves
in order to attract the attention of what was not there, a naturalistic god,
who could neither create nor act, being merely the product of the created minds of man,
dressed in the fellowship image for the knowledge of God,
provided in our creation, so that man naturally seeks God.
In this case of blinded mortality, however,
man is seeking to befriend His products instead of Himself.
THEY do not know, nor can they hear,
nor can they be stirred to re-create themselves,
for they were fashioned to be, and to live, and communicate with their Commander,
not to be their own matrices, masters and gods.

Statuesque like mountains given face by art, those bearing the images of the US Presidents,
are the micro-biological programs in life, hierarchically imposed*2C and composed,
as they declare their specifying agendas through action, as apt for each type,
auto-processing  their products and deploying themselves in kinds.

All of such data and considerations, implications and warrants merely confirm the definition of design (cf. Deity and Design ... esp.   2*3) as ineradicably applicable to life, more so than to any design of man, in mode, in result, in complexity, in product function and as much,  in integrality. Delete this, and the term 'design' has no referent. Deliver the quality from what imposes it, the result from what logically requires its causation (Causes), and you have only magic, a jaunty confidence in what is not there (precisely as exposed in Deuteronomy 32:16-21*3A).

In this way, there moves, as it has moved, that essence of naturalism, which devoid of all science, desires something in stages or all at once, depending on preference, from that totally unproductive source, nothing, seeking far from all things common or cognate, in wild effrontery to reason and empirical science alike. Its apotheosis, mystically expressed or other, is the very wonder of this world, founding itself by thought on thoughtlessness, as intricate, on nothing, productive of results that are so far from nothing, that they make mockery of the very term (cf. Sparkling Life ... Ch. 8).

These data now reviewed, accordingly, by contrast depict in their several spheres precisely what the Bible declared concerning designed kinds:

compositely emplaced and constitutive of the so readily reproducible,
but inscrutably producible aspects of life at the physical level: 'nature'abhors such work as operative cause, but loves to operate, once made. In other words, for the things created, their initial brilliance dazzles, but it is amplified by the ease, with which it is reproduced IN ITS OWN TERMS, generation by generation, on, in and within the boundaries supplied for its continuity. It is like someone living on a sheep station: one thing makes it, and another operates it, but once
made, it has much automated.

It is MADE in creative mode, works in maintenance mode, and the latter is the present, the former now absent, except in the imagination, that itself also created to pass beyond mere variables, to a mental creation of its own!

Even the reproductive side,   it is not the greatest of its vast and grand components, which expand the horizons of man to the uttermost, at least in potential! (cf. Little Things Ch. 5, It Bubbles Ch. 9, SMR pp. 348ff., Christ Incomparable ... Ch. 2, Scaling the Heights, Scanning the Depths, Spanning the Breadth: Jesus Christ has the Answer Ch.   5). What he is and can do, is great at the outset, fouled in the onset and reconstitutable in the phase and phrase of redemption (Romans 3:23ff., Matthew 20:28, Titus 3:3ff.). Man is made, marred, fouled, but able to be found, forgiven, redeemed, by  yet further work by the deity on whom life, environment and health and grand potential of spirit depend.  THAT work so far surpassed the first, creation, that it personally involved not only the time, talent and truth of the Creator, but saw Him bear the cost in Person, as He proposed and promised to do, centuries before actually doing it (Hosea 13:14, Psalm 22, Zechariah 11-12).

This is the biblical model which meets the facts as nothing else does, never leaving man without information (Genesis 3) from first to last, knowledge of his state and the reason and later the entire rationale and condition of his release from it. God and sin are absolutely apart by nature, as grit and grease, but more, as engineer and disorder: God is one not only in His use  of  language, for life (to be made anew, based on the program in the original creation, each generation), but in language for living (to be to the full in each new listing for life, each generation, where program cannot and does not reach).

As to Him, He does not vary, having Himself made time as part of the material ingredients of our station, the time which sets conditions and the space which gives place for our limited but in opportunity wonderful scope for an abundance greater than that of stars and sand, sea and flower, for they proliferate, but this deepens, till in the format of the Lord and the site of salvation, man can become a very child of God, rich in understanding and godly in purpose, understanding grace and relishing it, both to know it and to show it.

Never has the Creator failed to provide a remedy since the creation of this earth whether in symbolic assurance, as in Genesis 3,  in prophetic annunciation in the richly entwined prophecies giving something like stereoscopic vision, or in factual act in Jesus Christ.

Never has He left wholly abandoned and undone a world that undoes itself by sin, never omitted the word of reconciliation by which It might know Him. THAT would have contradicted His very nature (cf. Barbs ...  -7, Sparkling  Life ... Ch. 4, Repent or Perish Ch. 7), and He is neither double-minded as if afflicted from outside Himself and stricken in Spirit, nor speciously seeking for Himself, who lacks nothing, in mode, mood or any other way. Only the Bible provides such a testimony, in content and time alike, eternally backwards, uniquely centred in the works and words on this very earth of Jesus Christ, providing a salvation singular and not suggestive only! While the world warps, God works; and as He works, as in the creation, so in salvation, the basis is already built, solid and secure, and the application proceeds. With salvation, it is a selection every generation which comes,  all called, all  loved, some found (Colossians 1:19ff., I Timothy 2:1ff., Ezekiel 33:11).

In this, as inherent in design, simplicity, like a key placed readily in a doorway, that induces new lives in ways coherently and integrally deposited (II Corinthians 5:17ff.), a sort of new creation, this time spiritual by regeneration. Just as  thoughts are inscribed in matter, thus under constant and dynamic direction as composed in the same way, delimited and made subject to law (Hebrews 1:3, 11:1-2), wrought by the God who has commanded it both into being and into conformity, so  it suffers what is induced in it as man's misuse and abuse join its ageing, under the judgment of God, whose patience staggers as His creativity breeds wonder like a queen ant, astonishing, replete. What is staggered ? it is the spirit of man. With what does he reflect ? It is with the mind of man.

Whose enterprise, whose entrepreneurial thrust has made him ? That of the supernatural, incorruptible, incorrosible, indefeasible God who loves mercy, and would prefer the breaking on the cross to the breach of truth or morality, or justice that would make of this universe a mere gambol, but a sad one. Since He did it otherwise, becoming a curse for man (Galatians 3:10-13), effectual and redeeming for those who receive this death and in it find, through grace by faith, life, life is acutely meaningful, wonderful in depth,  glorious in height, spiritual in setting.

When one ignores nothing, one finds that nothing is to be ignored as its basis, and that in the end, only God is to be consulted. Then one finds that only the Bible is to be verified and validated (cf. (1) and (2) below).

From this we find that

the key is even personal! Only Christ is the Saviour of man from his spiritual sauciness, suave mischiefs and persecutory domains, and that

only in repentance and faith in His substitutionary atonement is pardon to be found, and
 

bullet

through His Spirit, which does not speak of Himself, but brings Christ home to us before His return, is power to be found for living as man's model should be used.

Ignorance is not bliss in this case! It is to miss.

We have considered two additions to the lists of life's features, namely

synthetic integrality,

and

linguistic command.

The latter is present biologically and spiritually, for God commands all men everywhere to repent, and life eternal for those who in faith receive His personal
ransom (Psalm 133:3).
 

There remains a third of the additional components*4 of the presentation.

This is found in

 implacable vitality.

 

THE INESCAPABLE REBUKE TO BLINDNESS

Vitality, one might say, is being alive. This is merely an identity proposition. Actually the word has far more implicit in it, than that. It connotes at our level, an energy of a KIND, a type of life. It designates an institutional thrust, and since 'vitality' can denote what is flaming and fervid, and persistent in presentation of what it is and has, we may call what is here in view, KIND VITALITY. What is it then ?

It is that special élan, directness of dynamism, which life as such always and distinctively has. It may be apparently recessive as in the sloth, or dartingly obvious as in the dragon fly, with its myriads of co-ordinated optical lenses, pinnacle of profuse complexity for light; but its nature is a specific to life. Its gradations almost mock classification, since there are so many subtle ways of exhibiting its force and power, that it becomes a work of art and perception to separate them. It is not only structural; it is not even  functional only: it is a thrust within design that  soars, surges or lifts  above its background into an  elemental foreground of its own. Like a pianist, who HAS a piano,  HAS hands and  HAS intricate affairs of a knowledgeable kind concerning music, but who transcends these when with intonation, inclination and interpretive éclat, he fashions his product, so life is no mere 'life  force' as if force, power to move something with acceleration were to the point, though it is often included, for it excels this as wisdom does code or spirited literature, a list of clichés.

This implacable vitality, it is far more than survival thrust, or even pleasure's pursuit, or dominance desire, though these things can be activated. In various phases, it can have elective élan, that is a facility to exhibit more depths or heights of its lively dynamic, just as when one stocks a fire or stirs up one's strength or imagination; but it always has energic unity in the exhibition of what it is, can do and has been provided to achieve. It can be compared to the flame of fire, the thrill of a waterfall, but it is beyond these display units, because of its field, which is not motion but life.

The dragon fly, for instance, flips its wings, at colossal pace, functions with its ocular brilliance, moves in agile dynamics in sudden thrusts, surveys things with exuberant  and intricate ocular avidity, possessed of a prodigy of technical art. When watched, it can  stir awe, not merely at its construction in utter ingenuity, but at its flight in dazzling super-efficiency, making mockery of slowness, of amateur motion, in its luxury of loveliness.  Similarly many birds possess elaborate systems of orienteering gear of staggering accuracy inherent in retentive memory, even able to have some kind of emotional relationship with humans, in some cases, on a year by year basis from thousands of miles away, and in others such as that of the lyre bird in Melbourne's Sherbrooke Forest. Never do I forget his bulging eyes as if of sheer genius, as I watched from behind a large tree, his seemingly effortless performance of what resembled a mixture of wit, comedy, watchful summary and pure exuberance of sound and sounds imitated. Indeed, even a magpie has been heard by some of us, with the same sort of multi-imitative series of songs.

Some can return despite mass migrations of enormous scope, to be maintained a little in some friendly site. A lyre bird has figured, not in migratory, but seasonal variety in a considerably emotional relationship with one lady in a forest as reported: a sense of comradeship came, and a place for performance was built.

In the field of life, there are variety of style, exuberance of wit, thrusts of energy, revelations of strategies of devising, quirks of artistic wonder, as in the magnificent orderliness and exquisite beauty, usually with symmetries or deviations of wit and striking power; there are evocative ways and witty wonders, and this becomes just a norm. Birds are found with coats that  take an aesthetic eye to ponder, flowers with sensitive depictions no insect could appreciate: in short, there is an exuberance whereby artistic fantasy becomes fact, and pure imagination riots into life, as far beyond mere continuance as is an ocean beyond a mountain stream.

VITALITY itself is a feature of life, not in unencapsulated grossness, or in mere gesture, but in articulated examples, in fish, bird, flesh of man, when it heals, a prodigy of design, program, persistence, insistence and precision. It is something that enters the mind, it chides the spirit, it thrusts the will, and there is as it were, a fountain of animation, an assumption of address, put not only into mass systems of mass parts of assimilable totalities of design, but in direct thrust into reality, like paper which MUST show its colours and patterns, when it has been prepared for this, when water is poured on its otherwise invisible designs.

There is, in short, not only the design of the atom, the electron, the laws of astronomical magnitudes, those of terrestrial forces, of that verbal-command system called DNA, that programmatic engineering, semantic wonder, where not merely one sentence or phrase attests its origin, but something like 1000 books of articulated architectural and engineering munificence, codally informed and synthetically variable in terms of oversight genes, a work of intricate genius that flows without mere thrust. Indeed,   there is not only the design of the organs, of the systems and sub-systems and of the laws which are meaningless without correlative ACTION, and are conceptualisable just as they are conceived, being of that domain of actuality: there is also VITALITY.

It surpasses survival as the day the night. It leaves a distant memory, mere existence, as a train when it leaves a station for the Alps above. It performs prodigies of art in bird aeronautics and migration, of endurance, of persistence, of mute refusal to depart from its realm as made, its channels as laid down, winging this way, moving upstream that way with the salmon, examining and investigating the other way, as the elaborated sensitised nose, as instituted in its design, of the dog loves to do. It can with the  Spaniel, be almost bursting to deploy its wits in the chase, or with sheep dogs, in their disposal according to human direction (and sometimes better than that given!). It can play with the porpoise or the seal, or ascend in willy-willies with the parakeet in the sheer exuberance of play, coming out one end, entering at the other.

The expressiveness of the genius that overflows its mere construction, dare not stop, the musician romancing with his maestro visions, the inventor engrossed, while the flowers dower their programmed individualities as if not knowing where to stop, posting colour this way and that, inverting design, reversing colour assemblies with a variety born of code, but individual in expression as all the surrounds relate, and each one expresses something of the sheer prodigy of power shown. It may be minute in form, as well as programmatics,  scarcely visible, its instruction module vastly smaller yet, just as the magnificent intricacies of DNA procedures so readily permit, with an ability from which human genius can only learn.

VITALITY is one of the chief essences of life, as variable as form, as fixed in fashion as kind, as mobile in expression as a sensitive face, a colour of the paint of creation as much as any other, an element of its wonder. Yet it one so often ignored, as though it were 'natural' that everything should have so much to give, such enthusiastic opportunities to make the most of it, and such thrust to do so. As with all the other ingredients of life, there is no 'natural'. That is merely a term made to service a reality in a dismissive, and not ideationally competent fashion. What IS natural ? It is what is found where occurrence is the feature. WHAT occurrence ? That of magnetism ? find then its cause. That of astral motigons ? find their laws. That of electromagnetic power ? find its nature, operating criteria and impact on other related domains of order and law.

What then of life ?

WITHIN 'nature', how zealous is man for knowledge; but when it comes to the institution of THESE THINGS (shamelessly dismissed as 'nature'), he becomes like one struck dumb. One remembers an excellent Laurel and Hardy comic show, in which Laurel happens to be at Oxford, and his usual carping,  crying,  troubled, stressed,  thinly controlled emotional state is on show. A window drops on his head, and he changes. Suddenly,  he becomes a mathematical savant, his language is toned to the task, his manner is groomed as born to it, his researches bear fruit, his brethren in studiousness give respect. If in  manner he is not a little autocratic, then at least, he is now a don of the utmost assurance as there is work wrought through his well-tiled brain, and profound cognition. Such is he, post window fall. There he is, looking likely to continue as such... until the window again hitting the back of his head, he resumes his ways as the well-known Laurel of our customary acquaintance! his patois replacing his erstwhile profundity. So whether we find the one Laurel or the other, there is in each a nature. It is individual, characterisable, requiring account. Oxford is no less.

'Nature' is what has form and function and continues to show it assignably, in the case of our concern. It actually involves the entire gamut of what is perceived in its undirected works, that is, works where no current direction outside the realm of the things natural is known and noted to be at work. It is as when man looks at a forest before chopping it down. It has facets and features, in various ways and phases, as the electronic, atomic, molecular, physiological, astronomical, geological, psychological, coded vital, and the aesthetic. Thus beauty lies NOT ONLY in the eye of the beholder, since its nature and ingredients are susceptible to objective designation, as to range and style, however different may be the opinions some may hold of the variables, here one savouring, there another slavering, but also in its inherent propositions, the fragilities, the graces and the fulfilments. There is far more than those facets noted: there is also the phase or feature of the intellectual, the legal, the administrative (modes of securing end-results in terms of a synthetic whole, parts contributing as coded to do so) and the regenerative.

EACH part and the whole, in each KIND and in ALL KINDS has to be considered with the same zest, vigour, rigour and zeal. Mere slackness, as of some Arts student sick of the analyses, is irrelevant. Calling it all 'this' or 'nature' or 'manifestations of nature' and so on, is a slick slide, signifying nothing but malaise of mind, deception of soul or dereliction of spirit. To be sure,  someone may for a time be deceived by the vulture culture, into following the nubilous notions of the crowd, deceived by artisans of myth yet in the end, there is no excuse for such disease, disablement or indeed disjunction, in the love of truth.

VITALITY is one of those aspects, foci, aspects. It MUST be accounted for with all the law and code and forms and formats of matter, ways of mind, grounds of validity in logic, unless one ceases to be scientific, rational and investigative. One COULD do this, and it is now NORMAL to do so with respect to 'nature', but it is nothing short of a dismal spiritual malaise, often combined with a loathing for the Author of all the phases and phrases in 'nature', as if being 'rational' were here to be

culturally rebellious,

academically perverse, or

socially provocative.

So does reason find release from its abuse, the alogisms and the surrenders to slick fraud*5, for that same Jesus Christ who denounced deception and spiritual blindness (Matthew 13:15, 23), there is the power to revive logic from its sleep and life from its suborning. Through His grace, it will not stay in bonds, but revolts from the revolutionaries, and returns, impugning the slides and surreptitious frauds of thought, and remains where it began, insistent on validity, verification and observation, not dismal dismissal by phrase, for life once more with open face beholds the glory of the Lord (II Corinthians 3:18). So does man become the creature of guilt in his resistances to reality, which is but ONE phase of his rebellion, another part of 'nature', HIS nature, in its pathological option, its blessed gift misused; and so is he to be rescued; and so does he have  opportunity to revive, to be alive, to have vitality once more, exuberant in life, not an example of exodus from it.

The LAWS of logic and astronomy, of physics and DNA alike, by which their KIND of thing can and does operate effectually, and the CAUSE of the form, format, functional media and synthetic correlation is not to be sought in nothing, any more than the outcome for any one feature, such as that of magnetism. Oblivion is not science. Surrender is not victory, but the corruption of death, still limping along in deprived life. Here is sequestration of the nobility of man, by his indolence, his indecency of heart, his revolution of spirit, his rebellion of mind, which in infamous impudence, he teaches as if a religion, to his young, penalising those who would awaken both mentor and pupil, alike. Need he then wonder,  as he seeks to transform even the biblical and historical Christ (cf. SMR Ch. 6, Appendix C and    D), into something else, that his culture and condition, unrepentant and rebellious even against redemption (Hebrews 2:1-3), swollen like the Brisbane river, yet this not with water but with false prophecy as foretold (Matthew 24:24, II Peter 2, II Timothy 3, 4, I Timothy 4, Jeremiah 23:11,20), is under threat. Need he wonder that men's hearts are beginning to fail  for fear as foretold no less (Luke 21:26) as he bludgeons truth and masks reality in foolish dreams, such as led to the near destruction of Israel (Jeremiah 23, Ezekiel 14, Lamentations)

Yet man cries, WHY these evil things, these tempests, this atomic bomb, why has it been possible to find such horrors, and why snakes and scorpions, and megalomaniacal horrors such as Mao and Stalin, the former called a 'great leader' by a former Australian P.M., something evoking incalculable horror to hear.  Why ? Mind is given to man to use, and assiduous finding of causes is one of his chief gifts, whether it be used, abused or neglected. That is one of the massive beauties of man: that he has duties and responsibility to which instinct may draw, need may lead, but which may be ignored, diverted or perverted. It is not the misuse which is wonderful, but the nobility of being able, in principle, to use or misuse, to soar or crash.

Man is neither animal nor saint nor devil, yet he can tend to resemble any of these, as an actor, alas, beguiled by his capacity for roles. He can ascend to sublime heights, only to fall as proud, or descend to devilish depths, only to find the pit bottomless and to bemoan his ''lot" as if it had never occurred to him that acting as the centre of the universe were not possible logically, since factually, this is not for any  man,  the case. This is the height of his creation, this design specification and spiritual gift,  that he can act contrary to theme, to integrality, distort and abuse, and he is not forced to do so. In  fact, God in the Bible pleads with man to repent and be redeemed (Matthew 23:37ff., II Corinthians 5:17ff., Luke 19:42ff.,  Proverbs 1, Ezekiel 33:11).

Even when environment and heredity limit, or misdirect, as in the academic carcinogen of teaching organic evolution in dictatorial and restrictive irrationality, in sedated or  spiritually sequestrated institutions, where praise is not for rational work but results agreeable to feeling on the part of many mentors: yet there is a vitality which permits, in the case of man, the turning against, and not only for, what is affliction.  In his  roving spirit, man can build a philosophy to blame God for the evils of the human mind, desolatory in its self-glorification, as if drugged by hypocrisy; or  deny God and with a grave comedy, seek to punish Him for being not as desired, namely a Creator of gratification for self-centred concepts. Yet to man it is given, in the grace of God, that he may return and repent, and seek the truth once more, and having found it, not founder further (cf. Jeremiah 31:18ff.). God can penetrate every inhibition, every condition, and while never using force, exclude the irrelevant and deliver those whom, having been foreknown as His own (Ephesians 1:4), are reachable by love, breachable by a repentant mind and teachable by truth.  Known before creation was, they are chosen before sin came, and then, without sin, all was even, and nothing deceived: known to God are all His works before man came to misuse them.

The cause of evil has been clear in the Bible, as have all the other predictions, analyses and historically testable features, for millenia. The glory of creation is a result of the glory of the Creator. The anguish of the creation, is a result of the abuse of the gift of liberty. The answer for creation, for those whom  He has made, at the relevant and here operative level, is repentance from this abuse, called sin, and of all that it portends, and humbling, each one, at the state of the spirit which is in man.

This involves being realistic about the 'nature' of the thing now, so that one receives the redemption which the exuberant fidelity of the Creator has freely provided (Isaiah 55,  Romans 3:23ff.,  Ephesians 2:1-10). The cause of increasing cyclotronic-style anguish in this world,  is a parallel increase in disregard of reality, making 'nature' a substitute for thought, and God an absentee, so that truth would not even be possible on the part of those who, in this model, lay it down with such eccentricity and erraticism, such errancy and often such pomp as that of the knight-errant of old. Yes, they thrust their delusions upon the very minds of their children, on their thoughts and profession, subverting, seducing, securing, till the continuance of such mental  rape and spiritual fraud raises questions! Should THIS go on ? God will not always strive, for the spirit of man would fail before Him! (Isaiah 57:15-16).

Let us see this:

"For thus says the High and Lofty One

Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
 

'I dwell in the high and holy place,
With him who has a contrite and humble spirit,
To revive the spirit of the humble,
And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
 
      'For I will not contend forever,
Nor will I always be angry;
For the spirit would fail before Me,
And the souls which I have made.' "
 

The thrust of vitality can become distorted;  and it has been distorted in the realms of animated nature, as a divine thrust of penalty on creation (as in Romans 8:17ff., 5:1ff., Genesis 3). In this way, much that lives can become  a virtual parody of man's spiritual pomp and folly, and a non-caress on its intemperance, godlessness and evils,  seduced, seductive, seducing,  spiritually vain. Thus it serves both as a restraint, a caution and a rebuke,  a hampering of fallen man's advances to godlike pseudo-status, that work of illusion.

In man, it becomes an evil often devilish, and its train like that of a monarch, flows behind, worthy of such evils. Romans 8:17ff. describes the matter, and the inability of the utmost striving to survive to achieve any improvement in life, is a testimony to its futility. Restoration is by regeneration, not attenuation. Endless 'moral' and 'amoral' and indeed immoral procedures based on man, are like basing cure on disease, and about as effective.

Man, DNA and all, is going down, as designs do, but it is far worse then merely through time, since THIS time has been subjected to a measure of judgment, reflected in the Second Law of Thermodynamics. It is through misuse and deterioration of the genome, of what is thereby built, of the mind and spirit of man that this has come; and the more he falls, the more he arises in a temper of self-will once more, self-sufficient to assert himself, as if a god! as if he had made the universe and its laws, who is himself, in much, subject to these same laws.

Earthquakes can crush (and their proliferation is forecast in Matthew 24 just as are the  raging seas in Luke 21, together with the hideous sights forecast to become a contemporary reality), but for the spirit and life of man, there is a holy helicopter, yes an instant cure, as if one were post-mature and in the womb, and suddenly there is deliverance: ONE IS BORN at last!

Thus, the difference lies in this, that there is escape other than escape velocity for what is flung  from this earth (Hebrews 2:1-3, 6:19, 4:11-16): there is the provision for restoration through redemption, to God. There is, not will be, but already complete (Hebrews 9-10),  the saving work of the Messiah, long foretold and fulfilled in every particle of prophecy in the Bible*6,  and it done. The kingdom of heaven meets the case for man but entry is by transmutation, because of deterioration of heart and  mind and soul and spirit (Ephesians 4:17-19). It is called regeneration (Titus 3, John 3).

There is a cause for vitality,  correlative with what it is: there is a source of thrust, vivacity, vigour, pursuit of vast projects (as positionally in avine migration, or propositionally in Shakespearian plays), of mental power and rational rules that work (cf. Predestination and Freewill Section IV, Causes, SMR Ch. 5), with the desire for them: and it is what is sufficient. The particles and the particulars: these are one thing. The vitality itself, this is another. All require informative formulations which are functional, not wild rushes into the exotic non-pareils, the nonsense ideas that have neither experimental verification nor observability in 'nature'. In man, nor indeed, even at the outset,  rational survival power.

Thus, when man through those deluded, argues, based on nothing, for nothing, in his torrents of rebellion, orphaned from truth by his own model, while he purportedly spouts it , in that  lair, in that lair and in that imagination, there being none, but only simple reactors immersed in being, with no outside for perspective or assessment: then he merely comes to nothing. That is what he comes to,  just as he would ascribe it as source for himself, or something else for no reason, with vital dynamics from nowhere, at once or by instalment. Thus he is using the creator-power which makes design, with its synthesis and criteria, characteristics and definable character, knowledge of what it is about,  while with it, he denies it of himself, affirming what he denies and denying what he affirms. In divorcing the realities of divine creation and availability, he assumes truth both willing and available - so that he might both have it and spout it, while he scorns it. It is time for man to wake up, for HIS D-day is coming as it OUGHT to do, for there is indeed, sufficient CAUSE for it!

Why wail in a stricken world, that it might be stricken the more, unworthy to exist, defiant in destruction, complaining in non-compliance, and mocking its source, its  salvation and its weal with ever-imperious requests, Give us more!

Such is the restless and imperious tenor of it, as man blasts off into the meaninglessness of his rationale, so irrational, and his spiritual evasion, so rebellious (cf. SMR Chs.    3,    10).

There has been an incident,  an accident. It is time for man to go to the Hospital for Holiness, and have mended his broken heart and his dizzy head, rich with the extravaganzas of incurable  folly: incurable by 'nature', but no by no means by its Maker; for His is power illimitable, and it is over all things, eternal before  all time with its  projects and  rules, eternal for  all time with its passing modes, available for  all who seek Him in heart (Psalm 145:18ff.), and come on the way. He invites (Matthew 11:28ff.). This invitation, it is as clear as  the command for the body in the speech of DNA; and God has written it in prophecy, fulfilled it in history and underwritten it in the blood of Christ, the just given for the unjust, given in love to bring us to God (I Peter 3:18, Romans 5:11-18, 3:23ff., John 3:16-19).

The word of Professor Sanford of Cornell University in this regard is noted in Alpha and Omega ... Ch. 3, in the following context. It deals with genome deterioration in man, the precise  opposite of aggregation.

As the cause*1A, it is before, and not afterwards, is there to  do it, and does not arrive postage paid from nowhere*1B; for when you deal with all, what is not there is nothing. It has outcomes as basis, not incomes, can speak if that is the desire, or not, being unconstrained by any lack of any kind. Systems of mutual dependent causes are its outlay, inherent capacity to  cause is its nature, which is  not given, but a balance of desire and actuality,  all in harmony, nothing pre-determined by any other or diverse entity at the creative level, but everything sure, because knowledge being unlimited, it is foreknown. Indeed,  since the lack of limit to knowledge removes growth and change: if the Eternal  wanted a holiday, to be different in itself, then it would lack and not be unlimited, but delimited, and hence a mere mirage,  and not the Being of whom logic forces us to take account.

You have it; it creates; it stops: it says so. That is the Biblical Model.

It leaves the interface tracks of mathematical  super-genius, symbolic, intellectual expression of triumphant miniaturised magnificence. It leaves undone no facility;  deploys things so sophisticated that many of the brightest find it hard even to grasp them:  then it has left off. They function. In its initiation of it, however, it has ceased. It is like a book written; and rather like a book, the pages over time, yellow. That is, as Professor Sanford shows, there is danger to man in the rate of deterioration of genetic information. Re-arrangements of information often occur by ingenious means; novelties in that field fail. The sufficient cause in the validatable and verifiable handbook has stated firstly,  cessation of this kind of creation, and secondly, trouble for it because of its handling of its own exalted case (Romans 5).

New information as required in creation, it does not come. Every day is a test of the LACK of failed efforts (even the simple cell,  Denton tells us, is a masterpiece of flaming functionality, to phrase it so). They do not appear. Palaeontology cannot produce the limping experimental or adventitious clumsy flops as less than moronic non-intelligence goes to work, if you can call it that. This is NOT what is found.

This is but ONE of the numerous non-verifications, failures of the progression theory, that of organic evolution which, having no solution, gives veto to rational continuation of support for such nonsense, which should provide despite attrition, in various environments, a characteristically vast and overwhelming attestation of clumsy failure, inexpert dum-wittedness, and more, since on that  basis there are not wits at all, so that whetting the wits to do better would be in any case, irrelevant. Removal does not produce resolution of problems, as any student of mathematics (profoundly present in DNA analysis) would know, when confronted with an examination paper and leaving a trail of dimness of wit. Association of form is not what is needed; it is command in code and symbolic interface, system from non-system, cogitative exercise from mindlessness, and sophistication without compromise, from something less than imbecility, while co-ordination of conceptual aspects of symbolic code becomes a mindless hypothesis of desperation for time to attain, without help from thought, reason, cogitation, surveyal, and the constraints of synchronisation.

Self-building of a cogitational exercise in TYPE requires a self which has cogitation in kind. It is a domain, not a ditty, an enterprise, not a fall-out of the Autumn leaves of undirection that makes an empire of reason's kind, subject to reason's entry in review, and the finding of complementarity of reason's way in the mind of man, and the way the biological masterpiece of his directive code and effectual result is investigable. Where reason rules, where reason responds, there reason is. You do not expect to find a clear copy in such a case, with no founderings. You reject the hypothesis of gradualism at once when such a massif of non-conformity is found in the evidence: otherwise, what is evidence for ? It is obvious that in this case, it is for obfuscation by ignoring it.

This has NOTHING to do with science, scientific method, but everything to do with the scientistic head in the sand sententiousness that continues with a plane that does not fly. Crashes become certain, as a misled civilisation is showing by its misdirected concepts, put into a practice which befouls the paths of sin, till they become as ludicrous as their philosophic mentors, leaving mankind in an increasingly inoperable mess amid the writhing and contriving nations as if they were responding to the disappearing branch of some witless hyperbola, in its lower extremity. It fits. Man does not. He flits with folly, fulminates with ignorance, assessing with hooded eyes, as his wits depart, and his intoxication with idolatry produces riot.

Thus, the thing being made, created, with language, some of the language by which God  spoke it into existence, has indeed arisen without ashes, no phoenic but a phantom of wonder. It is only after myriads of  copyings, after millenia, with much mistreatment, that it has substantially begun to break down (cf. Ch. 2 as marked, above); but that is normal in such a world, subject to the actual laws we have, which are the opposite in direction  to the assumed direction of  the assumed evolution.

The obvious, as Romans 1 tells it, is not popular, but mankind has a habit of seeking to suppress this. It is so and has been in all kinds of innovative nothings especially as the Age advances  to its definable end (cf. Answers to Questions Ch. 5). That too is fulfilment, that it is increasing at such a pace. It still has a little way to go, as governments increasingly look to net filtering, which can readily spew from removing obscenity to removing God, the Bible, argumentation in this area,  which has almost been done once before in Australia, for example.

The obvious remains so, and is indisputable by reason (cf.  SMR, TMR), continuously attested by evidence, overwhelmingly above in performance all evolutionary nostrums (cf. SMR pp. 140ff., Ch. 2, The gods of naturalism have no go!), and confirms itself in prophecy without rupture or release. It is summed in Jesus Christ (cf. SMR Ch. 6), who not being mad, and asserting Himself to be God in flesh, indeed showing His incomparable sanity by the fulfilment of His diagnosis for man and His indications concerning Gentile and Jewish developments, including His death, the thrust of Christianity throughout the earth, and its strong countermanding by antithetical forces before His return: is self-attesting.

It is shown also in that, once received (that is Christ Himself by His Spirit, as Redeemer and risen from the dead, sacrifice for sin and speaker of truth in all His doctrine), what it says is lived, through faith, and induplicable without it.

 

It may be convenient to import what Alpha and Omega ... Ch. 2, from the hyperlink on Sanford above, has to say about his work. It enables a little review of the point without interruption of context in the main text.

 

Before we proceed, let us look at the citation above from Waiting for Wonder,  Appendix (here slightly adapted):

As was earlier pointed out (op. cit. Volume 21(3), 2007, on pp. 111ff.), in a fascinating article by well-known biologist, Alex Williams:

 "DNA information is overlapping-multi-layered and multi-dimensional; it reads both backwards and forward; and the 'junk' is far more functional than the protein code, so there is no fossilized history of evolution.  No human engineer has ever even imagined, let alone  designed an information storage device anything like it."

He proceeds to note that "the vast majority:  is "meta-information - information about how to use information." Let us reflect on all of this. Now in the midst of wildly misnamed 'junk', we find the jewels of the crown, interpretative and collative, directive and explicatory background to the busy engineering of the protein-coding DNA. How often has it been necessary to point out on this site that magic is inoperative. You do not have things 'arise', for they require cause, and that in detail, and if you are going to have specific marvels of construction, you need specific marvels either of the power to construct, or of what such power has made in order that it may do it. With that, you need all that construction of a given finesse involves in imagination, conceptualisation and creativity, functions of person.

You do NOT, repeat NOT, have things wafting their way in on the wings of philosophy, rudely awakening specialists who are either unwitting or unwary or both, to the realms of delusion. You want it, it must be paid for, in cause cost. This world is not a dreamland.

Thus, to have this ultra-sophisticated, mathematical maestro level advent, you need the simultaneous advent of what is coded for command and what is coded to receive command; what is the instituted language for the production and reproduction of the same, and the performance of it. With this also, you need of course, what is available to BE commanded, commendably synchronised in its presence with the orders; for to order is of no use, whether chemically or in the Army, unless you have someone/something to order. A General without those to command is of little worth, and they must be integrated in one system where the fact of command and the mode of expression is understood, both to give and to get, while the means to institute, whatever these may be, persons, products or both, have to be synchronised with the issue of orders to the point that there is no mere wafting of sound, but intelligible symbols uttered in a plan of speech which allows semantic interpretation, programmed or personal, to act in the desired time-frame.

Thus there is for example, in the human kind case, need of making a threefold simultaneity of two coding specialisations not only with the same language, but with the same specification-symbol entry equivalents, to give and to receive; and with the correlative commands, the capacity to bring the stuff up for action upon it. For that, of course, it must be both there and in commandable condition, with all due technical specifications for the state in which it chemically exists,  and is physiologically reachable.

Williams is especially interested in meta-information, which is information about information, such as any student, whether over long years or shorter ones, needs to understand in order to be semantically functional. You have to know language in order to convey it, how it works, where it goes and does not, and to be really effective, why!  *T1

Thus, from Williams, we have further data (p. 115, op. cit.).

Not only is this meta-information case what is found, he declares, but in the regions yet to be more fully investigated, there appears to be a situation where all or almost all of this type of DNA is engaged in the work of gene regulation. This is an arena of current thrust in investigation. Rearrangements and circuits, orders, need some device to protect and to inject, and this meta-information seems full of it. Brilliant devices to use massive information structures to gain specialised variations on them, come with that fluency of mobility in the fixity of underlying structure which allows generic specifications to be adroitly adapted, like Mark I and Mark II automobiles, for example, as people await with expectation what variation on their desired make will be forthcoming. The mobile genetic units called transposons are one such device, which in one aspect, almost seem to resemble working mechanics, hands-on.

Williams moves (op.cit. p. 116), to note the work of Dr John Sanford of Cornell University, citing the latter's Entropy & Mystery of the Genome. Here, the mutative exercise considered in the genome, which as with most designs exposed to the elements, involves deterioration, not progress. This is what could be called the Gould phenomenon: things in terms of design KINDS or types,  are going down, not up (cf. Wake Up World! Your Creator is Coming Ch. 6). This is in part the Werner Gitt phenomenon: information does NOT arise without intelligence: cf.

There are laws, and these need to be known and applied*T1 (Journal of Creation 2009, 23(2), pp. 96-109).

In other words, these are areas of a kind relative to humankind, the way they go at the physical and physiological level, in overview.

What then of this finding of Sanford of Cornell ? That is the correlative both of the Second Law of Thermodynamics and of the basics of information science. His contribution is reported as showing that "deleterious mutations are accumulating at an alarming rate in the human population and that both natural selection and even the worst possible nightmare scenario of eugenics is powerless to stop it." This results from the enormous synthesis of variables, in holistic accords, weak points arising after several thousands of years, in hidden and varied ways. What there is to select from is being impaired, and the old chestnut, that to remove the worst creates the best is seen in its practical drabness. The best is going down.

Here is to be seen not only the meta-information fact in DNA, so that for the realms of orderly invocation of linguistic control, there is even something resembling a virtual dictionary of terms, information for the better manipulation of information, but an empirical restoration of more cause-and-effect order and discipline forcibly into arrant thought. Thus the DNA is DECLINING, not inclining and upward bound. Why up ? Why should anything want to go up ? if it is doing very well, why improve ? This is the point Gould has made so forcibly in terms of what is found and what continues, arrives and so on, on his readings of the evidence in the Cambrian, especially its designs compared with those found now: a large reduction in KINDS. Why in the world be concerned for  accounting for upward and more in design, when the lie of the land on that model, is downward, is less!

In this logical and semantic world, framed and co-ordinated from the first, empirically and in terms of life as found, you need the wonder of the end to start it.

Those imbued with the intoxication of 'nature', forgetful that this concept is an aggregation of many laws and forms and  formats and powers and provisions,  and like an encyclopedia, which has much the same in print, not vital form, not self-originating, may blunder on remorsefully, but without understanding. WHY are live forms made, and WHY do they decline so that people mourn their loss ? It is  so very and incredibly simple. Things made up of components by imagination and constructive originality and imagination, have their own means of aggregation and deterioration. We see it all the time both on the creative side, where codes and conditions are invented by imagination and purpose and intellect, together with practical prowess, and then deteriorate as the Second Law of Thermodynamics attests to be the way of things, and our own eyes bent on our own constructions. Whoever does the creating, in THIS world in its present state, THAT is how it goes.

The Second Law tends to be an empirical approach to the principial reality beyond it, namely that the Creator has given the earth pangs for its folly,  subjecting the creation to 'vanity', emptiness, so that sin does not have a bed of roses for its recreation, but even to minute matters, beachers have March flies, the Koorong waters masses of mosquitoes, jungles snakes, spiders, engulfing vistas as well as inspiring wonders. Creation and desecration, both of which we are quite capable of performing, as members of mankind, are available for inspection on a larger scale,  all the definable  aspects of both. The point is therefore to FIND the Creator and have redemption FUNDED so that the wonder of His wisdom may be regained,  and the pardon for presumption and other sin dispersed. Obstinacy at this point is  so well summed up by Jesus Christ (Matthew 13:15):

"Their ears are hard of hearing,

And their eyes they have closed,

Lest they should se with their eyes and hear with their ears,

Let they should understand with their hearts and turn

So that I should heal them."

The LOGOS is of far greater scope and power than merely to give rationality to the mind of man and the construction of the universe.

Reasoning and discretion, wittiness and wonder require a mind to implement them, a purpose for the minding of them, imagination to invent them, disposition  to  direct  them so that they both are and work, and when it comes to the mind of man, spirit to endue so that the decisions and roving appreciations and constructions of thought in man, might be inspired and given vitality, and the entire  disposition of human personality might be made an integral agent,  as one, with one mind minding mental things, moral things, spiritual things and willing to do so, or to avert. Indeed more, the freedom of spirit in man is such that he may even, abort or disguise or deceive as to his morals or intention or purpose or heart, sometimes himself,  sometimes others, at times, both;  and then being deceived, become deceptive and rationalise and so forth. He may relent; he may come to understand; he may be distant, aloof, bogged in antinomies,  proud of it, or sad with sorrow indeed at his follies.

In man, as to his institution, there is the phenomenon of the articulation and reticulation of all things, beyond the mere formation of any one part whether of an organ, a mind, or an environment, with the forwarding of his reliable resources to match the outward domain of law. In this way,  his  functions are ready on arrival for their operation upon them. In this total cosmos of his being, we come into the spiritual realm, so that for this, there is needed with the legislation and information of the LOGOS, which in Greek is also means cause and reason and  expression, the reality of what he is, beyond the parts and contrivances. In the LOGOS, he could find a foundation, a power to distance, not merely analyse, but intuit and perceive his own spirit with rationality and oversight, twisted, tormented or just, according as he is or is not true to his base and basis, and according to its present condition.

Thus he is made to express the LOGOS, but on what is this working and constructing, this vision and perspective itself, based ? As an EXPRESSION, of hat is it expressive ? There is  a basis for its work of creation and operation, that it be so moved, so act and so has power. However, when it comes to God, you are not dealing with mere finitude, but infinitude, where nothing limits since this accounts for all limits and their reticulations and inter-twining production facilities. Thus what expresses HIM, is no mere mode of mind, but His equal, able to  follow the infinitudes of His thoughts and reasons, desires and intimations. Such is the LOGOS of John 1, who being equal with God, was there in the beginning and has been ever since.

The EXPRESSION expresses the mind of God. Man is in informed at the outset with the image of that expression, a derivative that can commune, but not create absolutely, since it is always qua creation, limited; yet he can create substantially, since that limit is conceived such that he can have fellowship, share thought with God!

When man forgets the limit, he become insane, whether politically, religiously or in any other domain, and hence many tyrants acting as if God, are pitiable as well as odious. When he forgets God on the other hand, his creativity can put his cruelty into the domain of devilry. Yet these are abortions of man's power.

The LOGOS did not merely create; there is a crash department, as it were, for conversion of ruin to righteousness. For this, the LOGOS, already intimate in His DNA provisions for man's body, to have its successive generations and maintenance, became even more so, and became man. His excursion as man is a tender-hearted magnificence, wrought with the Father who sent Him, most willing (Isaiah 48:16ff., John 3, Psalm 40).

This work of the sent LOGOS (Isaiah 48:16, John 3:16), so that  the FALSE expression which man made by marring His image as given, the image of God, might be rectified, the overheated imagination cooled, the collapsing morality restored, the vitality re-invested and the calamities overthrown, involved a work even to death. In the Bible, the word of God as demonstrated in SMR for example, and elsewhere on this site, that is displayed in various regards:  as to its ground, reason, time, timing and results, from Isaiah to John, from Hosea to the Psalms, from Zechariah to Titus, from Daniel to Matthew,  from the Old Testament to the New, from formulation to function as in Acts.

Variation through sin is deadly. It had this remedy (Matthew 20:28, II Corinthians 5:17ff.).

Not all variation however is of this kind. There are varieties within created KINDS, and there methods of implementation are awesome in intricacy, ingenious in conception, brilliant in exposition, magnificent in effectiveness. This is touched on, in the next end-note.

Among his interesting microbiological points is this (p. 290):

 

"It is now well established that the pattern of diversity at the molecular level conforms to a highly ordered hierarchic system. Each class at a molecular level is unique, isolated and unlinked by intermediates."

This mathematical marvel, this classical control, this mind-to-matter grooming does not find its cause in the lack of the same, but in the acknowledgment. The mind of the Creator is continually apparent, both in His curse and His creation, and system obtrudes whether in the magnificent design maestro work in flower and plumage of well-dressed birds, or the logical finesse in well-controlled mathematical impress and impact in micro-biology. In all work, of whatever kind, we always look for finesse quality, evidence of attention to detail, of artistic or witty ways showing an abundance of elbow-grease from a non-wandering mind, and evaluate a work accordingly. Is it that at the macro-level man misses fire, like a faulty piston, and back-fires because even in his own mind and logical enterprise, scientistic thought, he has a passion for rebellion ?

What else! The mind is there, the method is there, the practice in other fields is there: it is like a champion batsman who in all things shows his 'class' but when playing England, over decades, he regularly goes out for duck, varied only by sometimes having one of the golden variety, and occasionally of the diamond. A curse causeless does not come!

Thus Gould (in his  Wonderful Life, pp. 46-47) notes with some apparent grief how the tree of assumed development, instead of going from diversities to uniformity, goes from conformity to sub-types, which is a hierarchical, thought- mould operation , where he propounds from the Burgess shale deposits, an initial rush of diversifications, following by REDUCTION and loss of divine types. But why worry about an upside down tree of connections! Obfuscation mingled with consternation as in Gould, is the way out ... but alas out of reason, not of the evidence, which remains implacable, like life in its vitality.

Again Denton (op.  cit.) p. 290, observes:

"One of the most remarkable features of these new biochemical discoveries is undoubtedly the way in which the pattern of molecular diversity seems to correspond to the prediction of typology. With very few exceptions the members of each defined taxa are always equally divergent whenever an outgroup comparison is made"

If, he continues, such information had been available to the creation warriors Agassiz and Owen, then

"the idea of organic evolution might never have been accepted." That is, even granted the stodginess often found in science, as seen in the phlogiston case, to which he compares the organic evolutionary monstrosity (pp. 348-351), the matter was too spectacular to continue as it did. Indeed, in this comparison, he cites Professor Butterfield (p. 351), to the effect that for a considerable time, in the phlogiston case, "able men who had the truth under their very noses, and possessed all the ingredients for the solution of their problem ... were incapacitated by the phlogiston theory from realising the implication of their own work."

That was merely stodginess, and pride, perhaps; but this which faces us now, in the realm of creation has another ingredient, the remorseless renegacy from God which like that from a now divorced former wife, in the first flush of bitterness, may know no reason. ONE failure, ONE misfit in a scientific hypothesis spells disaster. THAT is why science has respect, and why the current organic evolutionary theory has NOTHING to do with science, but is scientistic merely, for its failure in open verification is not only more than one, but numerous, increasing and spectacular (cf. SMR Ch. 2, The gods of naturalism have no go! and Denton, loc. cit.).

As noted in The Bible: Not the Declamations or Distillations of Man Ch. 4:

 What is, works. What works is not micro-biologically sequential in mode, but decisively typed in kind (cf. Denton, op. cit., pp. 304ff., 290, 280, 302). Order and hierarchy are the nature of the impress of authority that accompanies the modalities of the code. Things are categorically grouped, discursively compacted as by an engineering brilliance, using now this and now that feature with a fluency of thought both astonishing and delightful. Happenings are as far from the case, as in any other book, from any other writer, whose rationality and organisation are prominent. It is so except in this, that the divine creation vastly surpasses all other comparisons in terms of the creativity of man.

 See first, with respect to definition, SMR pp.  211ff., Repent or Perish Ch. 7, throughout but esp. in two locations and their hinterlands, Ch. 2 above, and indexes.

On design definition, the case is clear. You need what has integrity, or better integrality, oneness in multiplicity, so that many things minister to one result. You need the power to imagine it, since commands do not imagine themselves; the capacity to codify it if you want to use, as in DNA, programmatic devices, the comprehension to make code articulate with command, and command with the raw material for its implementation; you need a series and sequence so that the correct data come with the correct  matériel and the correct provision of it at the correct time, and the correct concept with which to edit any errors and rectify any oddments. So is it with the embryo, and indeed in much of the following growth, outside the womb.

This of course is precisely what is found in design, to make it so; and nowhere on earth is that of man surpassed in any visible realm. How is this so ? It is a question of complexity for the unity, differential divisions of mind, spirit and matter for the components, inextricably interwoven for normal function, operational sufficiency and efficiency for the command centre or operational agent to secure the results which are to be gained from comprehensive USE of all the equipment and connections and phases of life involved. Nothing comes near such versatility, power and combination, synthesis of dynamic diversity in KIND, as this. Fulfilling the specifications for the definition of design, it yet surpasses all other visible examples.  To remove this example, this exemplar indeed, man,  from  design, would have to remove the concept; but the concept is based on billions of examples, systematically found and implemented by the designed unit himself, man. It is just that his observable case surpasses all in the various elements that constitute what is defined to be design.

There follow three citations from earlier works, to illustrate the ludicrous results which come when man tries to ignore the data, and invent by magical moments in thought (cf. A Spiritual Potpourri Chs. 1-9), what no moments in nature contrive to produce; for you may watch forever, for what lacks what it takes, to take what it has not got. Cars do not produce cars; you need the extra features to imagine and purpose, to contrive and to make them arrive. Man-maker has to have all of this, and for such a thing as man, inventor, creator and imaginer, comprehender and amender, you need as it were the machine tools correlative to that; but it is not machinery: it is imagination and all else that the formation and formulation of command exacts.

Correlative with this again is the obvious fact that INFORMATION does not  arrive, but in information science as seen below, we find that information tends to dissipate, like other design. What is based on its autonomous arrival, when the law directs that the natural course of information is  its dissipation: this is not only UN-scientific; it is ANTI-scientific, and justly put into the realm of magic, where causes inadequate posited, with no evidence, are imagined to go with the results desired.

Secular desperation finally comes to expression, and reality brings at least temporary deliverance from the futile dream of self-creation of what is not into what is, as design is contemplated in its enormous energy and facility.

From Wake Up World! ...Ch. 6, with some extension, we note this:

Indeed, Gould draws attention to Darwin's belief that you cannot logically expect PROGRESS from the changes in view by any inherent propulsion, citing a letter  to Apheus Hyatt, Dec. 4, 1872:

"After long reflection, I cannot avoid the conviction that no innate tendency to progressive development exists."

That of course led to Schützenburger's impasse (SMR pp. 128 ff., 157ff.). We shall soon see in the CREDO of Gould, more saltations of thought, as in Nilsson and Davies.

 

The Gould reference is in his book, Wonderful Life, p. 257. Gould cannot find any either. Indeed, he declares this: "Instead of a narrow beginning and constantly expanding upward range, multicellular life reaches its maximal scope at the start, while later decimation laves only a few surviving designs" (op.cit. p. 233). Indeed, he not only notes the mockery which facts achieve of the developmental design by gradual propulsion concept of Darwin, but goes far further. On p. 236, he propounds this: "But if we face the Burgess fauna honestly, we must admit that we have no evidence whatsoever - not a shred - that losers in the great decimation were systematically inferior in adaptive design to those which survived," and on p. 239, he adds:

bullet "... we have no evidence that the winners enjoyed adaptive superiority,
or that a contemporary handicapper could have designated the survivors.
All that we have learned from the finest and most detailed anatomical monographs
in twentieth-century paleontology portrays
the Burgess losers as adequately specialized and eminently capable."

The  "decimation" is his term signifying the vast lost of biota, of design, from Burgess time till now, that ultimate parody of the developing marvel concept, proliferating its productions: for here the marvel is first, together with its proliferation, and then it dies down, up and out. On p. 236, he warming to his task, announces as if under hypnosis to his 'cause', "the mere pattern of life and death  offers no evidence that survivors directly vanquished the losers". Even a postiori, looking back on what was and what is, he is stumped; and that is the ultimate, when you cannot even 'explain' when you see what is the 'result', by the principles which supposedly require it.

So far from their being any inherent power to create design types, we find then that there is an inherent process to remove them, and just as the mechanisms are deemed incredible by Gould, since much is expected and little is gained, in gradualism, in order that the compleat angler should arrive and be capable of function, and we might add, since the evidence of the efforts on the way is so conspicuously lacking in all the myriads that ought to appear, that it is the other side of the impossibility, so that the coin shows both sides at once, which this being all too clownish, is quite fitting. How Alice would have loved it in her wonderland; but in science, of course, it is not a good time to take a course in children's literature, and mix it in!

Small wonder then that Gould is using heaven's name, explicitly, in his apostrophe, like Calvin in Calvin and Hobbes, as we saw in Wake Up World! ... Ch. 6:

HOW, he asks, presuming to do so "in heaven's name" - seemingly in the grip of growing frustration and desperation, like that of Nilsson and Paul Davies in his nothing approach (certainly radical, even if radically irrational)
 

ˇ       "HOW ... COULD SUCH DISPARITY ARISE SO QUICKLY"*1A (op.cit. p. 227). The Burgess time provided what he calls a "Burgess maximum in organic disparity" (loc.cit.). The Chinese fossil case cited is reputedly similar (p. 226). "HOW," he continues, "IN HEAVEN'S NAME COULD SUCH DISPARITY ARISE IN THE FIRST PLACE, WHATEVER THE LATER FORTUNES OF ITS EXEMPLARS?" (Cf. Questions and Answers 2, End-note 1.)

ˇ       It is of course far easier to go to heaven in word, than in fact; just as it is far easier to have continuity in nature through the power of phrases, than in the power of evident construction.

The intense and literally immense irony is this: that while Gould's words invoke a heaven of whose power no indication in his words appears that he is aware, in the antics or cavortings of his desperation, it is precisely where he invokes this name, that the answer he seeks is not only present: it is blatantly so. However, how many, how often are themselves amazed in due course, at what they did not see, and as we shall see in our Chapter 7 to follow: the sense of irony is not lost on God ! (as in Proverbs 1, 8).

 

The conundrum, it is most easy to answer. The bewilderment of Gould, it is simple to understand in this matter, just as his own conception of punctuated equilibrium is no more than a nomenclature with which to clad what is not there, and what is lacking on such secular constraints ? It is that lacks in such a theoretical model: a cause for conception, creation, institution, decrease over time rather than increase, beginnings like a splash, and endings like death. Gould here begins to realise in the face of evidence, the ludicrous nature of the omission! At last we find someone so fascinated by the facts, that he actually begins to state them.

Forgetting facts is no way to remember reality.

Yes, they present golden ideas of variation with PROGRESSIVE INFORMATION attached, so that NEW KINDS of living things arise (kinds ? you know The Defining  Drama ... Ch.   10 ?), even though it has never been seen, the means for it have never been positively tested and the equipment to produce it has never been found. ALL tests fail, for the relevant criterion of advance in integral functionality into more complexity and capacity; and anti-verifications abound. Information science, for example,  brings in yet one more law for this dissident theory to break: a law that information tends to disperse, not concentrate; empirics show NO design increase is made in derivative generations, a fact scarcely surprising since generation of information is generation of adapted data with attached significance; and to signify ?*1

For that,  you need what has it in it to do this, and in the DNA case, to give signified orders that will in fact be executed,  as well. The arrival of kinds in this arena ? We don't find it; there is no such information producer at work in the creation field, to be seen, found, witnessed or observed; no, in advancing kinds of life, there is no scintilla to be found. Books do not write themselves (unless, of course, the text be already written, and we are talking of a program by intelligence to transmit the writing by intelligence, to intelligence-possessing readers, without which the process would be meaningless, valueless and ludicrous); engines do not elaborate on their mutual, detailed specifications and enable their decoding into other engines; buildings to not raise their levels and instal their wiring; it is necessary in all things to have what it takes.

If you do not have it, you do not get it. If you want thought, you need a thinker to process and understand it; if you want will, you need someone who can will, to get the job of willing done; if you want imagination, you need a subject to specify the topic and the events: you do not make merry with water, nor does lava flow from ice. You need what it takes to get what you've got, or want to get. Making hey with irrationality while the sun of popular favour shines may be profitable and an anodyne for pride; but it is nothing else.

That is the way it is. To dabble in magic or its equivalent,  a theory of irrelevance has been produced. It cannot stand 'nature' as given from something other than itself, so it criticises it by showing it came to be what it is by doing what it does not do, and starting its design productions as it did not start. We speak here of what is observed, reported and presented by scientists such as Gould. HE may not have been keen on the implications, and did produce a theory without power and so void of explanatory power; but he did note facts in rather important ways! (I've got some notes for you on that*2.)

Science often does note things like this, together with what is necessarily implied by them, in terms of correlative procedures. How things go when they are there, made, is scarcely correlative, however,  to how they have got here, in order to be able to go on with things, once they have been made. Manufacture is not the same as operation. The work of driver or mechanic is not that of car-manufacturer, creative thought to initiate books is not the work of the librarian, nor is the butcher the breeder.

Operation has only one thing to say at this level. It is not organic evolution. It coincides precisely with creation. How ludicrous is that fixation which some appear to have as the father of thought, so that they talk of the untestable! Testable ? Is it testable whether or not new kinds of creatures are being currently manufactured by 'nature' with out intelligent aid ? Is it testable whether this negation is to be expected where certain forces act in a kind of way which is used to account for design ? Is it testable when the Bible indicates with force and simplicity, that creation was FINISHED, as to KIND ? Is it not obvious that the one implication is fulfilled, and the other is not.

The ideas of forgetting about facts were often to be found in the darkness of obscuration in earlier phases of science over history; but there seems currently to be a reversal and renegacy, back to those other phases.

Where 'nature' says no! science is not the one which says 'yes' -

but science falsely-so-called, it does it, yet only in the fantasy mode, the idol branch of idle imagination!

Nature does not, in fact make itself or its components, but they are USED as they are made to be used, whether with fancy variabilities of sub-type, glorious situational provision such as crystallisation, or not. It is set up and it works according to kind, and if it is capable of being 'hurt' as life is, then it is hurt, not re-designed. That is why we NEVER find increments of design, only variations within each kind. That is why information theory, like biota evidence, is that what is relevant to life, DECLINES. It does so in theory, as in practice; and here the attestations of theory are built not least, on practice as they ought to be in scientific method arenas.

Thus the ONLY place where the ACTUAL power is placed is the non-natural, since 'Nature' does not do the thing in view, namely the institution, constitution and coherence creation of biological language, type, kind, material and vital sub-components, thought, spirit, will and so forth. We can USE a kind to GET its kind; but we do not have them making themselves, for the very simple reason that in this universe that takes work, and in any causal situation you need for that, what its constitutive constraints require, to institute them, both initially at all, and then in the various kinds in view. The alternative is irrationalism which cannot even argue for itself, since it would invalidate reason, a foolish effort, since reason brings us to revelation and this to affirmation, verification and validation (cf. It Bubbles ... Ch. 9, SMR, TMR, Reason, Revelation and the Redeemer ).

Not therefore where the data say NO:  but

where the type of thing observed in our world, has an adequate resource,

where the spiritual aspects of our lives
(cf. SMR pp. 348ff., Little Things Ch. 5, It Bubbles ... Ch. 9, *1A),
have not only their own ground of creation,
which is not by the absence but by the presence of the qualities shown,
not only to be, but to create because it IS,

where truth can without self-contradiction be KNOWN at all, and
 

bullet

where cessation has its meaning:

this is where what is finds what it does, where reality is investigated and found active,
not in myth or magic, but in measured discourse and certain reason.

THIS is the testimony of experience,
the demand of logic and the ground of verification;  and it is the resource and the only one for validity,
and the constraint of actuality. There is nothing else.

It is not for  Gould to complain in heaven's name when heaven is the answer, or if you will, the God who made it by will in the creation explosion.

It is not for him to lament: for creation being logically required, and in cessation after 'explosion' confirmed as to nature, being the assignation of the components, not from themselves but from what made them also, we move in this realm, of the rush into existence of multitudes of designs, by Gould's account, followed by decimation of the same. It is not with tragic grief written over our faces, before dabbling in more magic, but with the knowledge that there is ONLY ONE PLACE where the validation and verification alike exists; and scientific method being forced to go where the evidence not only in one phase, but in each phase both separately and synthetically, is to be found, it MUST present this.

 

And that, it is merely what in fact logic independently requires in its other reaches as shown in SMR, TMR and elsewhere so many times.

That all harmonises to perfection makes of mesmerised man's intolerance of truth the more ample a ground for judgment; but this too, it resides in the One whose powers delimit such a function (cf. Romans 1). On that, see Celestial Harmony for the Terrestrial Host.

That God in His mercy, as the Bible indicates, is ready to forgive, has power to pardon as well as to create, has a willingness to do so and delights in mercy (cf. Micah 7:19-21, Romans 3:23ff., Colossians 1:19ff.), while not directly pertinent to the present concern, is of much relevance to those who conceive it. It is considered at length in The Meaning of Liberty and the Message of Remedy.

Looking at the evidence of life and its sub-sectors therefore, certain features may now be noted.  In addition  to  irreducible complexity, there is:

indivisible integrity,

indissoluble co-operation,

inter-and intra-systematic proliferation,

coherence of logic and symbolic notation with
executive receptors, skilled to catch meaning and execute orders, 

continuity of sequence from
connotation, to denotation, to implementation,

demarcation in a series of systematics
incomprehensible except in totality,
meaningful in comprehensiveness,
in part arraignable by will.

 To these, from Glory, Vainglory and Goodness, Ch. 1,  we add

physical, ethical, moral, aesthetic,
discursive, ruminative, intellectually integrative,
spiritually imaginative and
metaphysically cohesive unity of perspective, operation and concentration,

and

potential for unitary understanding
explicative of all,
derived from the summit of experience and
comprehension in the Creator.

With those come:

synthetic integrality,

linguistic command and now with other components of the presentation,

implacable vitality.

These are 12 fields of attestation, part of the fulfilment of the definition of design, and so vast in scope as to constitute an amplitude past measure.

Considering, for  example, design as what is below, we are over-abundantly supplied with exemplification and exhibition of it. It is definable as
