PREFACE
In this case, to avoid the possibility that some readers will avoid the Preface, it will largely become the first Chapter! Thus, here, merely in sum, one notes that the all but indescribably morbid machinations of man, becoming more and more evacuated from the field of irrational thought and increasingly implemented in that of braying efforts to make a destiny for the race, without God, the déjà vu of Babel (Genesis 11). These, like kids' stuff being presented to restore the shattered family home, are a significant part of the 21st Century environment! It is not the 'greens' who are needed so much as the 'seeings' whose object is sight in the midst of a darkness which no eye can breach. When eyes closed, man faces the future, it is not trepidation but certainty which awaits him.
On that Christ did not say to His own generation alone, but to those whom it fits: "For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind." Some asked: Does not mean ourselves ? His reply: "If you were blind you would have no sin; but now your say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains."
At least, man need not await
the coming Judgment with uncertainty; it is quite certain. No fear is necessary
that it will be at the wrong time, in the wrong manner: it will come more
surely than Summer to the searching winds of Winter, than the skylarking swoops
of Spring birds, the looming mountains of swept waves, on the ocean depths,
when the storms lash, far more so than the demonic hatreds of mutually massacring
man, lavishly misdisposing the fascinating equipments built with such precision
and vocal symbolism, the language of the Lord to nature, to make it go.
God created it; man desecrated
it. God made it arrive; man made it dive.
It comes; and it goes, but the Lord remains, truth remains, judgment remains, and at the end of this Class, that of Creation, the Flood, the call of Abraham, the time of Israel, the crucifixion, the Church Age, the antithesis of the antichrist: it comes. Judgment will pelt down like rain, sweep like icy Arctic winds, judgment according to truth (Romans 2).
It will commend those things
done in the Lord for Him and His brethren, and condemn that which is omitted
without Him (Matthew 25:11-12). It will honour the pledge to pardon (cf. Micah
7:18-20), in His name, those who come where the pardon is to be found (Isaiah
55:6, Galatians 6:14), and dishonour those who have invented their own religion,
their own sacrifice, and with themselves, their own will, ways and discernments,
have been well content. None will be lost who are His, foreknown before all
ages (Ephesians 1:4), nor will any be found whose hypocritical contrivings
have sought to be wiser than God.
"I said, 'Surely you will hear Me,
You will receive instruction' -
So that her dwelling would not be cut off,
Despite everything for which I punished her.
But they arose early, and corrupted all their deeds.""Therefore," He continues ..."
Therefore what ?
" 'Therefore, wait for Me,’ says the LORD,
'Until the day I rise up for plunder.
My determination is to gather the nations,
To My assembly of kingdoms,
To pour on them My indignation,
All My fierce anger.' "
This, we read, will afflict ALL
THE EARTH. It is coming. The world writhes in its misdemeanours, misconceptions
and mischiefs of heart and head. But, as the Lord declares: WAIT FOR IT!
Better far, and far sooner, before
it comes, to wait ON the Lord, and obtain first, your salvation in the cover
in Christ by His life's redemption, and then your direction in His service,
the lack of which is not something to contemplate with pride, but with horror.
It IS horrible to have Him endure what is needless and horrible, from the
sins of man, for man, and then to ignore the blessings, adopting the blight,
for mere will. It is as if God were not enough for man, in the first case,
to obey Him, as with Adam and Eve; and in the second, to return freely to
Him, as in the world of the 21st Century, which is so filled with cultural
conceptions that are the merest of myths, impossible, rationally fraudulent,
the most woeful whims of caprice, and from the artless fiasco of efforts
to rest on these, and the desires of the autonomous heart.
God is not mocked. Why try ? God is love : why die!
" 'As I live,' says the Lord GOD, 'I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways ..." (Ezekiel 33:11). He has said it, He does say it (Luke 13:1-3, Matthew 11:28-30, John 4:14) and it continues till judgment itself is its epilogue. Epilogues ? They however are the finish. In this case ? Judgment. What else!
Yet it is not a judgment that is necessary, though judgment itself occurs. There is ONE on whom judgment has sat, that it might by those who name Him by faith as Saviour, be absent. Hear Paul in Romans 1:
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, 'The just shall live by faith.'Man, made the criterion, concerning God, concerning creation, concerning the end, concerning the running of this world, concerning the heart, concerning the psyche, becomes a mere idol, and his thought its profitless profit (cf. Barbs, Arrows and Balms Appendix IV). If ever a prophet were false, if ever his prognostications and power were small, if ever there were a fraud, an inoperative misalliance of pretension and performance, this is it: MAN! Man without God is a wonder, a woe and a pathos all but unspeakable! Small wonder then that his trust in his race, his actions, his plans and his ethics, brought into play with suppressed subterfuges of illicit assumptions (survive, manage man, imitate 'nature', and other desires), is repeatedly and exuberantly shown to have all the savour of ashes, the beauty of the pit."For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
"Professing to be wise, they became fools ..."
Not thus is the way. In this
volume, then, we shall plan to see the magnitude and some of the manifestations
of the cultural myth, and the magnificence of the divine remedy for man, in
close contrast, the one beckoning to its place, where false imagination lives,
and the other to God, where truth is.
