PREFACE

It is absurd, said the Humanist, on the radio interview with his Moslem counterpart, to claim that Islam, the Koran has all the answers to the world's problems.

He is right. When you read the Koran, and realise the caravan-raiding, war-making false prophet whose words have no rational verification, vindication or validation, and consider the scope of the material within that volume, there is simply no commencement of a coverage of the matrix of meaning, the heights of reality, the depths of mission for man, the remedy for his sins, the way to find pardon, nor for the solemn realisation of divine words which could attest God as the author, leaving no problem unresolved whether in epistemology, metaphysics, aesthetics, theology, psychology or any range of philosophy, history or understanding of ultimate matters.

That has been shown in various times, ways and places, already, such as More Marvels ... Ch. 4, SMR pp. 50ff., 91, 1080ff., 1186A, Divine Agenda Ch. 6, Bon Voyage Ch. 2, *10A, *11A., Lord of Life Ch. 3.

The Bible however does all these things, and it is not merely not absurd to claim it for this work divine of the last 3500 years or so, but it is demonstrable that it achieves it; and indeed this has been no small part of the 119 volume work, a theological set, In Praise of Christ Jesus, of which this volume, No. 120, is one part.

It has now seemed good to relish and be ravished the more by this elemental fact; for there is no realm where the Bible does not lend light, and its essential criteria are NECESSARY for this resolution as well as wonderful in the performance of it, as shown in more concentrated form in such volumes as are constituted in the quintet,

On Predestination and Foreknowledge, Liberty and Necessity,
Responsibility, Duty and Creativity and the volume,

Celestial Harmony for the Terrestrial Host.

Its intense intimacy with reason is demonstrated in such works as

and its demonstration as truth has been shown in SMR, with many elaborations and presentations in the same vein and theme upon this site.

The Bible achieves this felicity, this majesty, this breadth and height and depth ? But of course, this has been the topic and the truth in so much for so many years, as shown on this site.

It has moreover just that moderation, that refinement of diction, that precision of thought which thrills the soul of the scholar, for it is not as the scribes, filled with weights and counterparts, but imparts freely and with sovereign assurance of which we find this: that the more it is given test, the more it attests itself. It also grips the heart of the child who marvels as it is explained to him or to her, in its loving simplicity with what Paul calls the 'milk' ; and the fact is that many children grasp its point far more than some adults! It can pierce the heart of youth, and show what is secure and sound, though the walls of wisdom of man fall to the ground, and bite huge hunks of dust, as if it were ravishing steaks, without sometimes even seeming to realise that fact.

With Jesus Christ came the kingly key. Here is the ONLY sacrificial and divinely attested Saviour, capable of providing reconciliation with God by procuring pardon and imparting remedy in and by Himself: He is the only one the world has ever known. That He is verified and validated in every field and way as is shown at some length in the nine volumes noted above for example, procuring what reason demanded for such a world as this, and what grace provided, so that the world can continue at all: this is the goodness of God to such as we are, to whom He has given reason, experience and eyes with which to see the quality of His diction, and the inability of history over the millenia, to depart from His word.

Thus someone might ask, Why another volume ?

It is nice, sometimes, to poke about, as in some old shops with interesting old books and varieties of objects, not so much in systematic search (this has its place, and has often taken place within preceding volumes), but in the joy of discovery here and there.

In this volume, then, in the field thus defined and set forth, we plan to enjoy the wonders of the Lord by visiting, now here, now there, this topic and that, and experiencing the wonder of His competence, His composition, His communication and with this, we hope for many, His presence more fully, and with more appreciation.

To be sure, no one will ever appreciate Him fully or even rightly, without first finding Him, or find Him without first taking the way He has provided in Jesus Christ, the only authorised TEACHER with final word of power (John 14:6, Matthew 23:8-10), the sole Saviour and the only Lord (Acts 4:11-12), provided for man by the grace of God. It is only when you find the fact of the favour of God in Him, who alone is sinless and an acceptable sacrifice for sin, being God the Son, the Word, sent with infinite purity and power to atone, that you will ever even KNOW Him! However, either as a relish when you do, or a stimulus to seeking Him where He may be found (Isaiah 55, Galatians 3, Romans 10), this work is provided.

May it bring joy to many, tears to some, and aid more to rejoice in the Lord as they travel, pilgrims of the Pure One, companions of the Prince of Peace, and the Prince of Life (Isaiah 9:6-7, Acts 3).

At times in this work, we may have occasion to surge into the spiritual stratosphere, finding the heights of His wonder as given to man, or into the abyss, to experience the solemnity of the truth, or even to follow our glance over the wings of our spiritual aircraft, and swiftly moving, surprise distant horizons; but this is a pleasant journey, for we take it as it comes, travellers by grace, or to it.

So may it be.
