HUMAN BRILLIANCE
AND LITTLE THINGS LIKE THAT

The pre-natal brilliance of man

Australia is coming into the news now, with the Indonesian horrors. Horror 1, the suffering à la Kosovo, horror 2, the animosity of the rebels (using the term to relate to an anti-referendum feeling, following UN covered voting), the sheer inhumanity that erupts like a volcano in the world so often. It is not only there.

However, we are not here to note that epic, grievous as it is. We must however observe that it is ONE MORE illustration of the Biblical prophecy voiced in News 84. Death is covering like lava.

It is rather to note something else that has come to involve Australia. It is this time a happening in Australia itself: THE NURRUNGAR SPY BASE, says the Advertiser, September 17, 1999, "finally opened its doors to the world", and this as a prelude to closing them, if not indeed removing them altogether! It is to go. US technology and other considerations (Australian vulnerability perhaps) have led to this.

We learn this: that the data from this base helped in the 1991 war, in which, this time not Kurds but people in Kuwait were the target of gross violence. Then, "the Pentagon relayed to the Middle East warnings of Scud missile attacks which had been detected by Nurrungar."

Wonderful, you say ? How man has made it! Not really. Do not misunderstand: our capacity to handle data is outstanding, brilliant, regionally above that of animals, though some of their pre-set instincts show the same brilliance as that which instructed our rational faculties, which however are given to OUR OWN CONTROL, in measure.

But consider this: COMPUTING with all its marvels, is like a child unborn in capacity compared with the works of the Lord as INSTITUTED IN OUR OWN CELLS, their CO-ORDINATION and SYNTHETIC TOTALITY OF INTER-ACTIVE ARCHITECTURALLY DEPLOYED FUNCTION. (cf. SMR 251ff, 315Aff., Repent or Perish 7, pp. 141 to end and index, Language). LOOK AT THE RESULTS!

1. We have been given the POWER TO CONCEIVE of our little gadgets, to miniaturise them, to place their operations in a matrix of conceptual interchange, thoughts and understanding, symbols and logic, data input and output on rationally architectured lines. It is outstanding. But it is very small compared with the CAPACITY to do it, which is SYMBOLICALLY SENTENCED into our cells, which are CO-ORDINATED into a FACILITY better than any spy mechanism, which can then execute what is ENVISAGED by imagination, disciplined by regard for the natural operation of things, which it can understand and imitate to a substantial degree, depart from but not with impunity, and USE.

2. MAKE ONE LIKE THAT!

3. One thing which computers have done is show us what an amazing amount of hard, extended work is required to perform some of these 'simple things' like walking, like making a car turn a corner. It is baffling to the greatest, stimulating to the most gifted to find ways of COPYING such performances, even rather crudely, and then, as what we might so laboriously make, it is even then without the imaginative capacities which are ours, by virtue of which we can construct anything remotely like it.

4. Indeed, our miniaturisation has been a current pre-occupation of brilliance, because of rocketry and war. But as Denton in his Evolution: A Theory in Crisis, points out - OUR miniaturisation is millions of times WORSE than that evidenced in our own construction!

We have seen these things in SMR Ch.2 at length, but it is time to ponder in our achievements and exploits, the source of the power to do them, the extent to which our delegated and relegated powers to do them are overshadowed by the power of our originator. It is time to revisit the war-torn domains of our creation and with the simplicity which culture and pride pollutes, but which is essential to understanding, to realise with fresh sharpness of perception, one profound fact. The Maker of order is not disorder; the Maker of architectural provisions is not a system of uninventive capacities; the Maker of Nature is not Nature: the personification program is literary usage, not logical reality and the efforts to get the unintelligent to show the ingredients of intelligence is mere verbal romancing (see Index Naturalism, and The Empty House of Naturalism, esp. The Kingdom of Heaven 8).

The INPUT involves a rationality far greater than our own. The output of our own is as we began to note above, frequently horrific, but apart from that, it is also inferior to that of our Creator. It is time to return to Him, to His power, to cease acting like aliens, whilst perversely looking for them (cf. A Spiritual Potpourri 1-3) , cursing Him for His kindness and most restrained judgments, and accepting the facts of the universe and what they imply, to cease insulting God by acting as if He were mute when we, as a race, blather words of revolt about the universe, though thankfully, not all! This evil is certainly pandemic, but its impact is not universal!

It is time to realise that He spoke not only INTO our cells, INTO our architecture, INTO our power to conceive, but TO US, in a book which has been proved on this site to be the word of the living God, and which verifies itself constantly as constantly shown also on this site, and systematically so in SMR (see verification in SMR index), and elsewhere.

With death all around us, it is time to find life: it is available not in the temporary spy satellite, and not chiefly in the temporary housing of our bodies; it is available as eternal from that Eternal One who invented our temporary format for far vaster opportunities and greater graces. Lift up your eyes, and find Him, or if you have found Him, rejoice in His grandeur; for far greater is He who made the grandeurs of creation, seascape and skyscape, the miniature and the magnificent, the lingering sunset and the marvels of peace in mountain and snow, lake and shore: than these.

THIS is his WORK; HE is most marvellously kind, but no fool, as you can imagine. Do not worry about hypocrites, but ensure you are not one of them. "Seek the Lord while He may be found, and call upon while He is near" (Isaiah 55:6). He has come very near in Christ Jesus the Lord, so enter by that door the domain of eternity. See John 10:9, Isaiah 55, 40:8,12-18,27-31, and let us put before you meanwhile just three sections of these words of God:

"Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure; and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance ? Who has directed the spirit of the Lord, or beings His counsellor has taught Him ?

With whom did He take counsel and who instructed Him, and taught Him in the path of judgment, and taught Him knowledge, and showed to Him the way of understanding ? Behold the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, He takes up the isles as a very little thing..." (Isaiah 40:12-15).

But let us precede this in Isaiah 40:10: "Behold the Lord God will come with strong hand, and His arm shall rule for Him: behold, His reward is with Him and His recompense before Him."

"But after the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, that being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life" - Titus 3:4-7, which could be read with John 10:9, 27-28.
