There is so much.There are so many ideologies of hate, lust and political pride, including the pride of internationalism, which is human race pride, as intense and thirsty for glory as ever any of the other have been. Amidst the vanity and emptiness of its overweening ambitions, there is one whose ambition was to die for sin, whose glory was to be given it from the One who sent Him, and preceded His lowliness by eternity.

This One, on earth, was the epitome many seek for in space man, but with Him, not from the innnermost recesses of space did He come, but from the loom where He made it, the engineering where He fashioned it, the day of creation, on which He with His Father and the Holy Spirit, declared the mind of God in this created field we call the universe.

 Constantly, we need to see the essential simplicity of things: they ARE things, and the One who made them, so that without Him was nothing made that was made, is the Maker of makability: it is from Him that this spinning globe, this moving galaxy, this sea of space has been spawned: His is the deed, the thought and the word by which it has been first created and then fashioned. It is from Him that the concept of kinds, subject to marvellous variation within their types, has come, and from Him that the human race has been modelled, and when He came, you see its original and mandate Maker.

 It is from Him that every problem is resolved. IN SMR Ch.5 we discussed major philosopihic abscesses, chronic problem areas not capable of being concluded while schools push this way and that. But in Christ they are as cheese before the cheese knife, not even particularly difficult. So too with the heart of man: the psychiatrists have long finished their real work of various reductions, making man merely a power-seeking self, or a sex plant or a flowing stream of uncharacterisable libido, or political pawn or a cultural wimp. They have nothing more to say but pills, to control.

Too expensive, too extensive and too personal, they have become increasingly a specialised form of chemists, and their psychological oddities are as ripe as tomatoes, left too long (see SMR Ch.4). While there is room for the empirical and the statistical, the efforts to know the soul have tended to recede as many fail to know it is there (see loc.cit.), and so treat what they cannot even perceive! Small wonder so many millions of Americans (who have the money for these things) are classed as having mental illness.

They cannot but the Lord can and does heal those intimacies of heart and channeled contours of the inward being, because He knows them, the design and the character of the change. He has also paid for the type of operation needed, for as many as - known to Him - are ever to have it, and He has done the research, bearing in Christ, in His own self, the sins which leads to the prophetic word (Isaiah 53:11):

"By His knowledge, My righteous Servant shall justify many,
For He shall bear their iniquities".

His is the power, the glory and the action. He DID it on earth, DOES it from heaven (Hebrews 7:25) in principle, and it is received on this earth in practice. Just as He healed the hearts and bodies near and far, so now from afar He heals what is near, by the power of His precision salvation, which swallowed up death in victory, and the the knowledge of His precision understanding, by which He experienced what was due to those whom He has redeemed, and will redeem, and put it to rest in death, from which he arose with that same triumph that marked all in His life on this earth (cf. Repent or Perish 2).

Now we are witnessing the kaleidoscopic seeming turmoils of history, but it is in fact like all the other problem areas, a matter of having the key. Christ is the key which opens the door of understanding, to riches of wisdom and to deliverance of life.

In this small volume, we shall be seeing this in one way, and another; the absence of which in unbelieving (and therefore non-receiving) hearts creates the dimness of understanding, the violence of life, the radicalism of dissatisfaction and the frustration of unquenched fires, that are tossed this way and that, and burn, when they should be used in building.
